I would assume that people will only see the work and volunteer experience part, and focus only on that.

Personal Achievements?

-----

8. Have you listed irrelevant information?

Don’t list your hobbies unless they directly support your qualifications for the position. Never mention marital status or the number of children you have. Leave out non-professional affiliations such as political or religious volunteer work. However proud you are of personal achievements, you should not run the risk of alienating someone before you even have your foot in the door.

Source. (unsure if safe) lol...

------

Religious point of view :

Mark 14:66-72----
As Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant-girls of the high priest came, and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, "You also were with Jesus the Nazarene." But he denied it, saying, "I neither know nor understand what you are talking about." And he went out onto the porch, and a rooster crowed. The servant-girl saw him, and began once more to say to the bystanders, "This is one of them!" But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, "Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean too." But he began to curse and swear, "I do not know this man you are talking about!" Immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, "Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times." And he began to weep.

- Ironic Moral : If they where looking for a black man it wouldn't have lasted that long.

Now, someone suggests that I REMOVE religious references off a resume unless I applied to a religious institution (or any that's faith-based.)

What a preposterous suggestion! I believe religion is just as much a part of who we are as our race is. We can't change our race unless we're as wealthy as Michael Jackson.

Some of this might depend on your region, sort of job you are applying for, and local culture, however:

You might find it useful to hear a suggestion for Aspies that I read or heard somewhere, I'm sorry that I can't find an exact quote or citation. The suggestion is, in polite conversation in society, certain personal topics are to be avoided. This includes religion and politics. You do not bring up religion or politics unless you know the person you are bringing it up with well. (Obviously, this rule doesn't extend to a church or political gathering)

The problem isn't so much that you have a lot of religious stuff on your resume as much as you've put so many references on the resume that it looks like you might be a, for want of a better term, "rude" individual who will bring up religion frequently in the work place against the rules of polite society.

Now, some of this might depend on local culture, its no secret that regions of the american south mix politics with religion a bit more than the northeast for example, and I don't know how that applies to things like the workplace.

My feeling is your construction stuff shows you are a hardworking individual and probably a caring individual, while passing out dvds about religious material is completly not work related and perhaps raises a concern that you are going to not respect the rules of polite society.

Also, keep in mind that if a employer allows an employee to be badgered over religion they can be sued for religious discrimination. Likewise, they can't turn you down to religion but since they can't even ask you relgion during an interview, they might be uncomfortable that a lot of your resume revolves around it.

Now, if you are the sort of person that likes talking about religion at work all the time, you may be better off working for a church of religious affiliated charity, where such talk is less likely to be considered impolite.

This is all just my opinion.

'Matter of fact, when I built my resumé, I didn't even placed a single reference to religion, because effectively, that's something nobody cares about and it's preposterous. It's like saying you've been to underwater basket weaving seminars in your resumé. It's useless, irrelevant, and preposterous.

You might be better off emphasizing the secular skills and downplaying the purely religious activities. You have too much of the latter on your resume and it could scare potential employers.
