Should people with an ASD work at all or collect a benefit?

I have also had the problem of coworkers talking bad things about me (like I pace, look worried, etc) then tell the boss and I get yelled at. But not fired, no, they don't want to pay unemployment so they make it so difficult you leave.
I think I am trying to save people going through that so they don't end up my age and have nothing to look forward to.

Yeah, I have fun memories of female coworkers telling management that I am scary or intimidating?
I've never hurt a fly in my life, but, just because I'm not an annoying giggler with a pasted on smile that I am intimidating them? Da fuq? I'm pretty sure that says more about them than it does me. (also had similar feedback when I tried taking a woman's self-defense class... evidently my expressionless face and concentration scared my sparring partner, so I had to work with the instructor instead of another student. Way to learn to take control, chick!)
I've not worked with too many women since my restaurant/retail days, but, my current office is full of them, luckily they're all more reserved and I don't stick out so much.

Given that the ASD community has an 85% unemployment rate, don't get through interviews, find searching for a job hell, and then when we get one, cannot cope with it, should most people with autism work at all? Don't we take jobs away from NT people who need them? Should we receive a "benefit" as soon as there is a diagnosis?
Of course we should work. I would never want to take money from the government just because I have Asperger's I need some minor accommodations but I can work and I WANT to. I'm good at what I do. I struggle in different areas when compared to others, but I excel at what I do well. My professors (even those who know about my disabilities) have never, ever doubted that I could succeed. I do it differently, but I do it. I'm not taking a graduate school slot or a job someday away from someone who is NT. They are not more deserving or qualified because they are NT. In some areas they may be, certainly I would not argue that I don't have the best social skills, but when it comes to research and when it comes to math, I'm awesome. I see patterns and connections between numbers that most people don't. I find questions that most people don't. In a research world, I'm at home, and I can make a career there. I am being trained to make a career there. It's a tough world to be an Aspie in, but it's an even tougher world if we have to depend on someone else to take care of us. Whenever we can, we should work.
