I just got a job! 8) :jester:

But it is at my old place of work 8O

Which is not good, but I don't have much choice. At least it is only for the summer, and after that, I'll have to find work (hopefully elsewhere) for college. What I am hoping is that my new job will be far, far away from my old station. I worked at a factory making pipe fittings (Swagelok, to be exact) and there is a very social work culture there. Some people I really rubbed the wrong way, and although I didn't really fight or confront anyone, it was incredibly akward.

*sigh*. I hope this goes ok for me. I only worked there for 3 months anyhow.

Last time around I did some janitorial duties for a machine department and did various assorted tasks like unloading scrap from the machines, etc.

This time it will probably be more cleaning
/me groans inwardly

but it pays really, really well, so I'll just go with it.

I work for an insurance company as an internal IT support guy. Used from within the company call me whenever their computer does something they don't like. It's pretty nice: the people are respectful, I get to do something I like, and the schedule is more-or-less flexible. I also call computer vendors whenever the company needs a replacement. That's the part I don't like; the help desk people there can be pushy at times. But work is work, I guess.

I have worked for my county's department of Social Services paper shredding, stapling and stamping. I have also worked at my local City Hall filling out applications and doing bank codes, as well as my local hospital collating papers.

You must really be feeling teh loff. :?

Perhaps you should inform her that, "actually, no, and further more, screw you 'cause I'm leaving".

It's such moves on the part of parents that lead to nervous breakdowns on the part of their offspring.

Or you could pull a Cool Hand Luke and do the gravel shovelling twice as fast, and have the rest of the afternoon off. :)

I don't get it? You are over 21? Why is she
saying "You have to??????" . I can understand
being a minor and getting you out of the house!

These are not the typical jobs posted in this

How did you get them?

I work for a charity that runs services for
people with various social needs - mental
health, learning disability, drug and alcohol
issues etc.

Perhaps this is a UK thing? I never heard
of such positive description of a outreach
service like this in the USA. How did you
get this job? Did you start as a volunteer
and eventually got a paid salary?

Rumio wrote:

This means I run a lot of meetings, do
presentatioons etc and generally try
and get people motivated to have some
interest in the way their services are run.

Is this a field director, or some managorial
position? Perhaps a co-ordinators position?

I love working with the client group but
I don't really enjoy the whole going to work

best thing I've done recently was setting up
a project with a local theatre company - we
created a show from scratch working with
our services users to create something
that communicated stuff about their lives
and we put it on at a theatre in Manchester.
It was really cool and went down really well

What was the play? How long did it run?

Ghosthunter:

The jobs that I have had were work-study jobs through the special education program, which, in turn, worked with the school district. Since the school district works all year long, I had had these jobs over the summer. I had worked seven days a week (that is combined with the time over the past few summers I have worked. I had started working in the summer of 2002 and have been looking for jobs every summer ever since.

I work as a cashier in a Walgreen's pharmacy.
So I mostly just rob seniors and the weak and
destitute [sarcasm at the ugly part of my job].
It's kind of sad really, what with the price of
medications these days. The one thing I do
like about my job is that, unlike school, my
job doesn't follow me home, so I don't have
to think about it when I'm not working, which
is quite a relief.

Hmmmm? How long have you been doing this?
With your extensive knowledge of Med's....
What are your positive and negative views
of "Med" pushing as a easy fix to alot of these
wrongplanet folks?

<Is jealous of your culture>

Here, you'd just get pissed of when your hard,
voluntary work got messed up by neds and
you'd spend the whole time cleaning up broken
buckfast bottles (a sort of fortified, sweetened
cider or wine for young people who want to get
drunk) and tennents lager cans. Also, forget
about having park furniture. They can set fire
to anything.

I love your wording. It makes even the simpliest
things sound intriguing. What is a Ned? What
is this thing about broken Cider bottles?

Do you volunteer, or work in a cannery of
drinks?

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter

P.S....If you get the chance to! Please report
to the "Big Foot" adventure for your shot
of Scotch and another task! Mr.Ghosthunter

Um... not employed. I don't really have any
credentials or a career.

Am I safe to guess your like me, "Alot of
Part-Time jobs that go no where"?

That was why I was laid off at Villa Pizza and
would have been if Mac Tech International

Hmmmmm? I can only think of security guard,
janitorial(late-night) and washing dishes.

Sound like the "Union Square Backpackers
Hostel". I worked the front desk 18-21 hours
a week and it came with the "abuse me" benefit.

Is this what you mean? A co-dependency
relationship between a task, or deed for
living expenses and school expenses?

since nothing I'm good at is anything more
than worthless with just an AA degree.

What is your Associate of Arts degree in?
I will assume your then 21? (Let's see
J.C is 18-21=A.A degree and state transferables,
and add 3 years for the B.A degree element!)

Based on this calculation I say you would be
24-26 when you get a B.A degree. Are
in special services that may help you get you
B.A degree? Where in the "Valley" do you live.

Hmmmmm? Sounds like either Sacramento?
But more likely San Jose area!?

Wow. A lot of us work in grocery stores.
I'm surprised. I find it to be overwhelming
at times.

I work in the deli/bakery of a grocery store.
If I'm lucky, I get to decorate cakes. It's a
good job and my boss likes me, but I'd like
to go into an art or graphics field eventually.

Is it the solitude of a Grocery store that keeps
you there? If not....What is it about grocery
stores?
