So I finally got my new salary.

I knew that the top of the new range would be $10K less. I told my wife that and she was OK with it. My manager had sad something like it could be a reduction of $8K -$14K, and somehow my wife heard $6K to $10K.
It came in at $11K reduction and my wife is disappointed and talking about how hard it will be.

I know it is just worry about the finances, but I feel bad hearing the disappointment, concern and frustration in her voice.

We should be able to make ends meet on my salary, plus she is working part time, but it just seems like we never have enough money.

I feel selfish taking this pay cut, but she encouraged me to for my health.

Please tell me I did the right thing taking less stress over $11K more pay.

Around here managers don't get paid for overtime--which means the regular employees get to go home at a decent time or get paid overtime. Having a real life after work can be well worth the reduction in pay.

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. I was in a management situation and over the course of a couple of years, I was on the verge of complete breakdown suffering from a level of anxiety that I had never experienced before. I was lucky to have a very understanding boss who had promoted me over the years because of my talents and abilities. I was valuable enough that they wanted to keep me and they helped me step down and transition into a new role without employee supervision involved. I took a similar pay cut, but it was the best thing I ever did. I had to be careful about my spending, but my life satisfaction is better and my anxiety has slowly come down to a level that I was able to better cope. I hope this change serves you well also.

Great to hear that they let you move into a more appropriate role for your talents. :)

Bald-accountant:

YES you did the right thing.

I have learned in my years that just because I was doing something didn't mean I should have been.

Your health and well-being are priceless and there are usually ways to make things work out somehow financially. :)

Thanks Mbard, flagreen and BTDT.

I have been so busy the past couple of months trying to get things transitioned.

I started taking Zoloft about 5 weeks ago. The NP that is working with me to monitor the drug said it should really kick in this week and last and it has.

I have not felt like this in years. My head is not constantly hurting. Between reducing stress at work, exercising, and the medicine I feel tons better. I am trying not to get my head in the clouds too much though, because I know there will probably be a few bumps on the way.

My manager has been good about getting me out of the managing business.

I just have to figure out how to deal with the stress at home better. My wife has been about at her limit.
It is mostly my daughter who is struggling with her self esteem and how to relate to her boyfriend.
