As long as you're keeping up the progress, then it's cool.

Jobs like yours are crap jobs. The supervisors/managers within these jobs tend to be embittered because they didn't get an opportunity to better themselves. They have a different mindset from us. They can sense when somebody wants to better themselves; thus, they become jealous and do the things they did to you.

Just wait it out, my friend. Maybe apply at Costco should you have one nearby. You make decent money with Costco...and they have a good corporate culture, too. You might find idiots there, too. But it's less likely.

Thanks for the advice on the job location! I'll look at similar corporations around me. Unfortunately, there's no local Costco, but there are quite a few competitor chains, and perhaps something with a larger corporate background handles reports like these in a more professional manner.

To be a bit more explicit, the people at this job have laughed in my face, discussed me in negative terms where they thought I couldn't hear, called other employees "fa***ts" and made violent, race-based insinuations towards them, and expressed violent attitudes towards others overall. I was intentionally put on different duty so I would not interfere with their ability to leave their jobs earlier than the scheduled time, and so they could cut corners.
An incredibly negative workplace.

Even with new management, I think it would be a challenge to turn things around. Maybe if there was a new store manager who over a relatively brief period of a couple of weeks brought in his or her own assistant managers. And even then, well, you'd have to split these negative, counterproductive individuals up. Maybe a new policy of task rotation. And frankly, it would help if the new manager had a giant gentle, linebacker type of body, and personality-wise took the approach, this is just the way things are going to be. Or maybe another boss who didn't need to be so physically imposing but just had a steady eddie type of personality and could easily and matter-of-factly say, 'hey, I don't want to write you up. Understand, I've heard you're a good worker. I do not need want to write you up . . . '

Even with the best new manager in the world, less than a 100% chance whatever you do.

I actually kind of like these types of business puzzles (at least in theory!), but my God, what a negative environment.

In a separate post, thank you for your bravery in sharing that you're LGBT. Shouldn't be a big deal in this day and age, but sometimes still is. I for one think you should have the same rights as I do, including the right to marry the partner of your own choice. Of course, we as free citizens should all have the same rights. :D

I don't happen to be LGBT myself. I do have a speech difference and people sometimes stereotype me as being gay. My voice is more nasal than average, although I don't think it's anything like a stereotypical 'gay' voice. I think it just shows how ignorant people can be, or how few mental categories they choose to work with, or something like that. I have jokingly thought, even if I were gay, I think I would still object to this kind of sloppy and stupid stereotyping.

@Lostboy94: Present your case to a lawyer or to the National Labor Relations Board. If they won't take it, then tell it to the Marines.
Watch out, you're making too much sense and being too logical.
I'm not worried. If the OP had wanted hand-holding, then he should've posted in The Haven.

Since he's asked for legal advice, I've given the best legal advice that I'm ethically qualified to give - "Seek the counsel of a lawyer".

OP, please advise your response to these possibilities:

1) Given that this thead has been corrupted/derailed, you might like to open a new thread in The Haven, on the same topic, where people are more likely (because the ethos and rules of that particular forum) to post respectfully and supportively about the dilemmas which various OPs experience and seek input on.

2) Would you like me to lock this thread? If so I will be happy to assist.

Hi B19,

I'll take a look at The Haven and see if I think it's a good spot to post. As for locking the thread, I'd say yes, go ahead. There's a lot of junk people would have to sift through on this one because of the derailing.

Thanks!

Ok, I will lock it. In this particular instance, if you want to post the same opening post in a new Haven thread, you can if you wish use (copy over) the same opening post without it being considered in breach of WP's prohibition on cross posting.
