I was 14 and a sophomore in highschool. It was a collections telephone job for a credit clothing store. I fell in love with a dress in the window and was tempted to buy it when I found I got a 80% store discount. They laughed at me and told me not to buy their clothes because they were cheap shoddy rags that didn't last as long as the payments did.

I didn't last too long, though. Then I got a job removing lables off of dog food cans with a puncture type can opener. They had sold them to another dog food manufacturer and were to be shipped to Texas to be relabled. Hot, sweaty, dirty boring job.

well, I was put up a year in elementary school because of my reading and speaking abilities, and anyway, it was Kansas in the 1960's.

You can't start school early in any of the other states?

Each state has a law on the entry date for kids entering kindergarten. Here in Seattle, where i live, which is in washington, you must turn 5 before september 1, which is the law in most states. In california it is december 2.

I was eleven. You can legally get away with that in South Texas. Delivered newspapers and had some illustration jobs during that window of "fascination" that someone so young could draw like an educated adult artist.
