Long story short, I just landed a very high paying trades job. I'm making big money from day 1 doing something I love doing, and get raises at 6 months, then after 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, journeyman, etc. $$$$ I was very lucky to get this job, basically a guy got fired and I took his place this week---otherwise I would still be waiting. I had to get in with the right people though, and show them my work ethic and long term potential. I'm so happy to catch a break!! !! Life is turning around for me, FINALLY! I am so happy!

Congratulations!

Now, being a little strategic, get there consistently 5 to 8 minutes early. That will be considered a good thing out of all proportion to what it's worth (in my opinion). But apparently, that is the way the game is played. So, choose to be dependable in this highly visible manner. Or, a little broader, okay, 3 to 12 minutes early, that will also work.

Learn a lot, make a lot of money, appreciate people for all their quirks. And if possible, remember those of us that may not have such good jobs (in practical, realistic, doable ways; consider giving 10% to charities you believe in, or if not that, 5%).

And, have fun!

I would like to second the congratulations on your new CAREERSpace. And I would like to second what ArdvarkGoodSwimmer says, too. Nothing impresses the boss more than the Aspie penchant to be prompt, coffee already drank, lunchbox stowed, rigged up and ready to go at the stroke of starting time. Good luck and prosperity here you come!

I just wanted to say "congrats" too. It's wonderful when one of us has a true success story.

But you need to be casual about it, and that's the zen of it all! If the boss is late, that is perfectly okay. Even if the boss is habitually late, he or she most probably has other good qualities (said to self with as much a sense of humor as required!).

I tell myself it roughly breaks down a third-a third-a third. A third of bosses are good. A third are mediocre, but you can work with and in fact learn from. And a third just aren't particularly good and you're going to need to get a new job sooner or later. But the optimistic conclusion is that two-thirds of bosses are good enough.

So, roll with the good times while they're here.

A trade is a good place for an Aspie. We are always on time and our ability to hyperfocus on details and get it right the first time and not waste time socializing is considered a good thing.

This is true. The job is probably going better for me because I never stand around talking (I'm always working), and I never talk back or give attitude (like some apprentices do---they really don't like guys who do that).

I just did my first week, and it was great! Hard work, lots of hours, but I can do it and it's pretty interesting! My friend is a foreman at the company, and I ended up on his crew! The people are all pretty easy going, and everything is safety, safety, safety... so it really pays to abide by the rules 100% of the time. I think this could really be a great career for me!
