How many interviews after graduation did it take to get job?

Just want to see others' experiences..

I've had 9 so far (1 more coming up on Monday.) No offers yet though 5 of them were in the last month or so - some might still potentially lead to additional rounds.

Btw, I graduated with an MS in Finance in May 2009 (probably the worst sector to be in at the moment.)

Count second, third, etc. rounds as separate interviews. If you got eliminated at round 1 in 5 interviews then got 3 rounds at another company before getting the offer, count the total as 8.

Writing letters was my strong point, so I got to next rounds on several occasions. Some rounds were tests on the internet or an interview by telephone; those went reasonable. On the real life interviews I had problems, I could not make my intentions and passions clear for my potential boss.

Luckily I ended up with a company that uses tests first and I got a good score on the test, so they wanted me even when my interview was not that good. (I did not get a job involving my studies, but it was on level)

There's no option for me - I never got a job relating to my college major that resulted from a formal interview.

After I received my degree & teaching certificate, I submitted a lot of applications & got maybe 6 interviews (no call-backs). Got on the substitute teacher list & subbed for a year (no interviews involved.) Was offered an itinerant teaching position (to run an elementary band program at 6 local parochial schools) by the music store, where I had a private lesson studio - so I did that for a year (no real interview for that job, either.) Then I enlisted in the Army for seven years (no real interview for that - but there were a lot of forms to fill out & an audition for the band.)

When I got out of the Army, I decided not to go back to teaching - so I worked at a music store for a while (there was a brief interview, but it just involved the store manager asking if I really wanted to work for minimum wage) & took night classes to re-train in mechanical drafting/design. Got my first job in that field without a formal interview (met my future boss at the drafting school.)

My current job is the first one I've had that resulted from a formal interview - but it doesn't have any relation to my degree. If you count it, then it took only one interview (... er, no - maybe seven interviews - the seventh being in a different field) for me to get a job after graduation - but (even though I've been employed in various fields continuously since graduation) it took sixteen years to get the interview.

If you start counting with my graduation from technical school, then it only took one interview - two years after graduation (but that was for my second job in that field.)

So I guess my point is that life can take us along some very complicated paths. It is rarely as simple as graduating & subsequently getting a job in the same field you prepared for. (I've met relatively few people over the years who actually work in the same field as their college major.)

I said 5, but to be fair I don't remember the exact number and that job was a seafood clerk at brand new Wal Mart (I had just finished law school). I quit that job after 3 months of brain numbing garbage.

I think I probably went on at least 20 interviews since I finished college, and after I got laid off from my last job, the only thing I could find in this economy was in fast food. I decided to take it because it would improve my resume and shorten the gap in employment. I'm only working 6 hours a week, so I'm continuing to look for something else, especially if it has more hours, but I'm staying with my job for the moment.
