WTF does it take to get a job today? I have been sending out resumes to various companies by the dozen, and I still can't get a freakin' offer! God D*** it, how the F am I supposed to afford a $4000-8000 home theater when I can't even get a job at all? And yes, my resume is completely devoid of errors. Please help me! I'm sick of being stuck at minimum wage!

Are you tailoring each application specifically for that position, writing a cover letter addressing the criteria for that job specifically, and even having a CV tailored for that job?

A mistake many make is writing up a generic application/CV and sending it out to a whole bunch of places in the hope of a bite.

problem is that it doesn't work. The guy looking at the application expects this, and unless it grabs him/her in the first 15 seconds it will go in the bin. You gotta make it easy for them.

So as forewarning of what I'm about to say I'm not at all intending to be rude, disrespectful, confrontational or bitter.

Piss off and don't complain, I've been out of work since Wal-Mart, in their oh so infinite wisdom, decided to pull Sam's Club out of Canada back in March. In short, I've been trying to get work for nearly nine months now and have been damned lucky if I even amounted so little as a bloody interview. So bite your f'ing tongue and recognize that you're bloody well inequivcally gaddammed lucky you've found even so little a minimum wage job in this economical climate.

and unless any of you are posting on the free computer in the library before heading out to your cardboard box in the alley for another night freezing in the rain, you can also feel a bit of thankfulness it isn't as bad as it could be.

been there, done that.

You weren't looking for sympathy or encouragement were you? lol Just work the minimum wage job and keep searching for a better one. It's easier to get a job if you already have one.....

Granted, I did choose an abrasisive manner to comment in, but on a realistic note, It's difficult for me to be all "flowers and bunnies" in my response and spit out the stereotypical pat-on-the-back "just keep your head up" and "keep truckin'" drivel when I can't even keep my own hopes up. But anyways it's nothing your doing wrong, it's just a lot of retail and other types of minimum wage employers haven't really been hiring since the quote end-quote recession has started because where's the fiscal sense in taking on new employees when yuo're continually and consistantly cutting back on your pre-existing employees schedules.

It doesn't change the truth. That's not what I'm asking for. What I am asking for is how I can increase my chances of landing a better job, and also if the economic climate is going to stay this way.

The point that everybody is trying to make is that you're going to have to start from the bottom and work your way up. Ho Hum, how boring, but that's the way it is. If you are able to get any type of job at all, consider yourself lucky. Apply for 10-15 entry level positions and as long as you don't seriously jack up the interview, you should probably be ok. My parents both have 2 jobs, so Texas must still doing ok economically.

The reason I am trying to be encouraging is because I have been through this before, where no one would hire me. I had a good job and just walked out one day thinking I could find another one with no problem, but it took me like 6 months. Stability is important to employers. I read somewhere that to an employer, employees are nothing more than a necessary evil.... Think about that next time you are applying somewhere. 8O

Wow...do you REALLY need a home theater that cost that much?

My biggest recommendation to you is to take your best specialty or expertise and become self employed. Or joina freelance online site like Associated Content where you can share your expertise with others and get paid like a few dollars and article for it.

Do you really need that? (mocks poster) You know when you start a sentence with the words Do you really need, you come across as very patronizing? Good god, even a Magikarp would show a lot more empathy towards me in this situation. YOU NEED TO STOP BEING CONDESCENDING!! ! I HATE CHEAP BOOMBOXES!! ! Just because I'm an aspie doesn't mean I don't have the right to save towards an expensive home theater. Good god, am I supposed to be a cheapskate just because of my Asperger's? STOP PATRONIZING ME!! ! Other neurotypicals have expensive home theaters, why don't you bother them about whether or not they really need them.

Give the kid a break! Can't y'all see that he needs help finding a job. All y'all are yelling at him for wanting to invest in an expensive home theater system. He wants a 4 to 8 grand system, so why can't he invest in one. All he needs to do is find a job he will enjoy without the minimum wage pay. My two cents is this. Keep searching for jobs, and submitting cover letters and resumes and hopefully you will get a bite. Everyone needs to be more encouraging and less condescending when someone needs help finding a job. Especially when that someone wants to make a large purchase.
