I was lucky to get a job a couple months ago as an apprentice steamfitter/pipefitter and I thought I would update you on how it's going. It is generally very good. I work on a very big construction site at one of the mines in my province, and there are over 1100 workers there. I am at a small company, about 60 guys, and they are all generally easy to get along with. I get up at 5AM every day, get on the road at 6, and then work from 7-5:30 monday to friday... it's long hours. It is easy to get along with the guys I work with, some are pretty funny guys and have a twisted sense of humor like me! I find the small talk hard though, and most guys say I'm pretty quiet, but I really don't want to be, I just don't know what to say so I say nothing and just listen.

It's an easy job for an AS person, just show up on time, don't lip off, do as your told and work hard and they'll love you! I make very good money even as a starting wage! I just bought a condo townhouse, and I even have a girlfriend now! I am much happier here than I was in school, and while I don't have much free time anymore (hence I haven't posted here in a couple months) I am much happier because I get to do something that makes me feel good about myself and not like an AS loser. I have a university degree too, so if I ever want to I can go back to it, but I love my new life now! I've never been happier than I am now, and am very grateful for my job and new life!

I just thought it would be nice to share some success stories around here.

Wow, sounds great. Despite the long hours it sounds like there isn't a lot of B.S. that you would have to endure in an office setting.
Excellent. :)

Excellent! But never forget: if the welding goes well, it's because the welder is good. If the weld is messed up, it's the fitters fault!

Congratulations man, that is good to know, at least you know that you have a job that you can maintain and you feel happy. Right now I am attending college (junior level) and even though I feel happy most of the time, I also feel very bored about school life at the same time. So that is good to know that you feel happy and even have a girlfreind. I wish I had a girlfreind myself.

You have you idea how much you've helped me. I've been considering learning a trade for a few months now and while I've decided to do it, reading success stories like this is very, very helpful. I've considered learning a trade to be the best option for quite a while now, especially since most NT's view it as undesirable work and all strive for the perfect job in an office, there are many, many trade jobs available for people who want them here. I plan on becoming an electrician. The TAFE college where you go for short courses related to mechanical/manual labour trades in only 5-10 minutes away!

So, thank you, your success has helped me.
