Well, to continue what I had posted a little over 2 weeks ago, the worst case scenario happened, and I've been fired.
I have the money to survive for the time being, but I really can't afford to be out of the workforce for long.

I have appointments with career counselors in the near future coming up, and I will be stopping by one of MA's One stop career centers tomorrow.

If you have any other advice on how to make my search as short as possible, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Why did you get fired? Is it due to your aspergers? If so, that is ILLEGAL!

Reading his other topic, he says he never disclosed having AS to his bosses. He also admitted he could have done better a job, regardless of his condition.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I got fired a week and a half ago from my job. My bosses a few days prior thought I was dyslexic (which I'm not), or at least something was up. I really was just screwing up an awful lot - not anything intentionally, but it became concern worthy on all sides. Only after I was fired did I say I had AS.

Since this is in Mass. for me as well, I will also add for the OP: When I was at the local career center, this is what they told me in regards to unemployment: Since you was fired (they used the term "discharged"), a mediator for the state will have to contact your employer as well as yourself. It's up to the mediator to decide whether or not you're eligible for benefits - based on how things actually went while you was working.

Business is far too aware of the illegality to even hint at a protected health condition is the reason for someone to be "let go".

It is just more carefully documented and planned, is all. It is always some other reason . . .

Greeeeeeeeeat
I may be better off just finding a short term job while I'm hunting instead of having to deal with this.

Simply put, it was a hard job, but I've no one to blame but myself, I just couldn't do it well enough. I have good educational credentials and computer skills, I simply need to find something more suitable.

I know you have the right intention, luvsterriers, but we can't be burning bridges everywhere we go and then pull the AS card, that's just not how it works.

I spent the late afternoon / evening looking up new jobs, finding career fairs and counselors, and some other stuff. Hopefully I can turn this over quick and get on with my life.

Good for you, that you're looking for a new job already. I've been let go as well, due to AS-related issues, even though my boss(es) won't admit it. But there are good employers out there who will appreciate your skills, just keep looking. Good luck!

All I can do, right? :)

But thanks for the encouragement.

Awwwww, crap.

I'm sorry to hear this.

Probably there's nothing I can do here other than offer moral support... I have nothing constructive to add about how to find a job. But if you want encouraging words, I can try to do that.

On the bright side:

Last week I had two interviews. One as a Data / CRM Associate (6+ month contract), the other as an Insurance Account Specialist (customer service, bleh).

I also phone interviewed to be a Jr. Product Manager. Hopefully I hear back from some of the more math-y jobs I applied for this week.

Good luck, hopefully you will find something soon.

Always worth your while to file for unemployment. In some states, you can receive it even if you were fired so long as it wasn't for gross misconduct [basically, something illegal or otherwise heinous.] I was fired for performance-related reasons and have been able to get unemployment.

Already filed. Hope nothing snags in my claim, though, I could really use that for peace of mind while looking for work, rather than just taking a job and setting myself up for failure.
