Fired for low sales

Apparently my sales were not as good as I thought. I was called into the office on Monday and told I was being terminated. My manager insisted it was nothing personal, not due to behavior problems, and that he wanted to keep me on, and that this came down from corporate. He promised to write a letter of recommendation for me to help in my job search. I was stunned, because I thought I was actually improving on selling. I was actually starting to enjoy the job, and it was starting to get easier for me.

You may want to consider setting up your own business or becoming self employed. I find that working for any employer in most cases suck. I have had a few employers that i really enjoyed working for, but over all, it is not a pleasant experience.

If your employer was aware of your Autism, it is actually discriminatory to fire you for not being a good enough salesman. The job itself is all about social skills. An Autistic should not be expected to perform as well as a Non-Autistic in that type of job.

Though I am certainly against discrimination and often feel we need to take action against it when it happens, I would have to disagree with you in this case. If you're employed to do a job and you're not performing as well as you're expected to, it is not discriminatory to fire you on those grounds.

If the OP was fired because of other people just not liking him, on the other hand, that would be a totally different story.

I feel a lot of rage towards "the bottom line" type of thinking.

So do I. And one their biggest things during training was "how important" their sales staff was to them.

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately most Aspies or people with autism wouldn;t perform well in sales. I was diagnosed with Aspergers and I work in retail. I actually dont do to bad in sales but Im sure my manager has noticed im not a very good salesperson despite my relatively decent numbers. Sometimes I have good sales other times I don't. Anyways its really too bad.

i disagree aswell, we know how our autism hinders us so its up to us to decide on a job that we can do, why would we apply for a job we cant do and then complain when we're told we're not doing it . reminds me of a vampire in a terry pratchett book wanting to work in a pencil and holy water factory (random reference).

And that means nothing. You know it, I know it. That's just a bunch of corporate schlock. I don't know why companies bother telling employees stuff that's immediately recognized for being just the bunch of corporate horses**t that it is (although I have partially believed stuff, and later been angry at myself for doing so)
