Any library workers on Wrong Planet?

I volunteer. I have worked for libraries in the past. I'm hoping if I prove myself with a volunteer job maybe they will hire me.

I'm caught in quite the racket right now. I'm "helping" with the holds list...the books that are on hold for someone else. I feel like I'm the only one working on the project.

Sundays the library is closed, so Monday mornings list is extra long. Yesterday morning I printed up the list and made it my goal to do half of it. It took me almost two hours. No one finished the second half of the list, so when I got there today the list was still extra long. I put in another two hours. If I were getting paid it wouldn't be as much of a problem, but as a volunteer, this is getting old. I keep adjusting my strategy to try to help, but not get in over my head.

Also, the stuff I can't find off the list floats forward onto the next days list.

Crazy stuff. I wear an official library tee-shirt and have a ID badge on a lanyard around my neck. I thought about buying a Wrong Planet tee-shirt to wear.

Yeah, I'm working in a library right now actually. Good luck getting a job with a library. I had better luck getting hired with university libraries than public ones, it helps if your a student. I've seen people get on as pages at public libraries so its not impossible and your volunteer experience is a good way to get your foot in the door. You could try a bookstore as well.

It sounds like you're being taken advantage of to me; chat with your supervisor!

I applied as a guest student at the local university hoping to get in as a work study student so I can work at the library. The library is definitely one of the best places for someone on the Autism Spectrum to work. :!: :!: :!:
