What's with Technology illiterate people that come into an electronics store and argue whether something will or will not work?
Here's what happened: Redneck Couple comes into my work. The lady wants a Nikon camera. I ask them if they have and SDHC memory card, they say they have an older sony camera with a memory card. I inform them that the Sony camera they have uses a specific sony memory card. The lady goes on about how she has a Sony Vaio and that it only reads the Sony card. So I show her the SDHC cards and she asks how she will put the photos on her computer, I say with the USB cable. She begins to become irritated with me and starts to stress me out. Her husband then yells in the most redneck voice I've ever heard, "YOU DON'T YELL AT HIM, HE'S TRYING TO EXPLAIN HOW TO DO THIS!! !" Needless to say they left and I had to fake tying my shoes to not completely freak out. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Yeah. I worked selling electronics, and cameras before. There were constantly technology illiterate people asking the lamest questions. They would stand in line for 15 minutes, hand me their camera and say "I bought this from you last year, I gotta know how to set the timer".... or.... "is there a memory card that will make it have more mega-pixels?" and then you try and explain, and they end up getting pissed off at you. I once had a guy, who asked me to provide a service the store doesn't do, and when I said no, he started yelling and saying he was going to wait for me outside the store and beat me! WTF, I hate retail. Dealing with stupid people in electronics is the worst kind of retail.

Retail hell, I've lived it! It was bad enough dealing with people normally, (I worked in a store similar to Walmart) but working in the toy dept. was a nightmare. Kids running around opening things, some trying to take off on the bikes, parents dropping them off like it was daycare, I'd found a few wandering toddlers alone.
The service desk. What a fun place, lol! You wouldn't believe some of the things people tried to return, and scream at me when we told them no. My personal favorite was a woman who tried to retun a shirt that had blood stains on it.

One example of that (the loud customer) is me calling someone to remind them of an appointment with a doctor.
The client was fine to deal with but his wife was yelling stuff in the background and asking random questions that were not relevant to the simple purpose of my call which was just telling the client that he has an appointment with my boss tommorow.

Colleagues have had clients call in constantly just to complain about stuff, and clients have been known to yell at staff. They don't seem to get that yelling at the staff that are trying to help just makes things worse.

My sister works in the sound and vision department and gets the technology illierate customers. Sometimes customers are just dumb. Like when someone brings in a catalogue and says "I want this at this price" and the catalogue is from christmas and the print below the ad says offer expires December 25. and the customer comes in with the catalogue 6 months later. sheesh.

I guess when it comes to technology, just tell the customer to refer to the users/owners manual. It's doesn't matter how loud they get. It's such a simple thing to do, but unfortunately, people today just don't seem to grasp the concept.

As far as dealing with loud, obnoxious customers...I don't have a good remedy for that. They get to me too!
