Promotion on the horizon?
So I've been at my current job for 8 months now. Most everyone likes me there, and I have a good reputation as a hard worker.
That being said, we're about to launch a pretty big project that will be utilized as a form of PR (me being one of the keys of it), and my boss recently asked me what I'd look for in an assistant, for them to post as a job opening.
So I guess this begs the question, is this a sign that I should start preparing to ask for more $? If there's one complaint I have about my current position, it's that I'm still at an entry-position salary (after all, still less than a year in), but tasked easily at a mid-level.
Hopefully, this turns out for the best. And, yes ask for more money if they offer you a better role. You should get paid for where you are in the work environment. It would not be fair if they moved you up, but didn't move up your pay as well. Anyway, this sounds really awesome, and I wish you the best of luck.

Not in my own opinion. Your boss might already know what *s/he* will be looking for in an assistant and might have asked that question only in an attempt to gain any possible advance insight into any obstacles to be overcome after such an individual has actually been hired. Having someone next to you as an assistant does not automatically make you (or me or anyone) a supervisor calling shots.

Perhaps, though given that I've had plenty of tangible success and I'm heading a major company initiative at the moment, I'm not too concerned w/ security.
I was smart enough to know to point them in the direction of a Comp Sci guy, rather than my background of stats/econ w/ some comp sci. Last thing I want is a clone of me in the office making less.
