So I've been working at Walmart for about three weeks now and I hate it. Everything about it I hate. I work 9 hours a day 5 days a week and I hate it. So I found a way to survive the horrors of Walmart. I completely let myself go into imagination land. I imagine that I am one of the first Mars colonists. I imagine I am exploring Mars with my robot companion, which resembles K-9 from Dr. Who, I imagine that I am building other structures, working on vehicles, fixing things around my little dome house. I imagine it all. At the end of the day I forget what I even did at Walmart, but I remember everything I did on Mars.

While I do enjoy this and it is probably the only thing that has kept me from quitting, that and I need to pay bills, I am just worried that I will begin to shut down outside of work and just end up living on Mars in my imagination instead of living my life on this planet.

There are other things that I am worried about too that Walmart seems to be bringing out in me, claustrophobia, and social anxiety that is similar to, but not exactly agrophobia. While my imagination is helping me deal with these issues, it's not curing them or stopping them from getting worse. It's just slowing the problems down.

I just feel like the older I get, the more I seem to be going a little insane.

i used to work for walmart. the best advice i can give you is: trust nobody, no matter how friendly they may seem. cover your ass! i cannot stress that enough, be ready with an explanation for anything. and most important, dont use the word "union" regardless of context, that puts managers into overdrive. they have a special hotline to call in and report "union activities or uprisings".

Good luck and God help you, you're gonna need it.

I once had a summer job working in a refrigerated warehouse. I also spent the whole time in my own fantasy world. Eventually I left and found a job that used my whole brain so there was no processing power left for thinking up imaginary worlds. Good luck.

Love the idea of losing yourself in fantasy :D I do the same myself sometimes when walking to and from places (my job involves a lot of talking to people though, so that puts a limit on things!)

I am thinking of pretending to be mute so I don't have to talk to anyone. Maybe I will print off cards that say "I'm sorry, but I cannot speak."

I do a little bit of sign language so I might be able to pull it off if I brush up on it and maybe learn a bit more.

I lasted 3 months at Wal-Mart before I got tired of the insults to my intelligence. A woman I was seeing at the time told me that the easiest way to deal with Wal-Mart was to "turn your brain off for 8 hours."

I'd recommend hiding. Walmarts are usually gigantic and inside those circular clothing racks are great hiding spots. Either that or get hurt on the job and get a workers compensation settlement.

Exactly why I propose Wal-Mart relax their standard on employee drug use. Might as well have a bunch of potheads working for you if you want to pay them crap and treat them like crap. They'd be so mellow that they'd not care.

Well, the way I "turn off" my brain is I slip off into imagination land and let myself go into automatic mode. The job could honestly be done by trained animals.

Although now it's getting harder and harder to slip off into imagination land. Mainly because I have found that I have claustrophobia. I suspected I had it after a camping trip, and a panic attack in the tent. Working in the backroom of walmart at this time of year... it gets rather tight. I also suspect that I am getting some kind of agrophobia. I get anxiety while in the backroom and I get anxiety when I am out on the floor. There is no way to win...

Ya I worked at walmart there for a minute.. That place I had to quit, the supervisor called me a f*cking idiot and i almost lost my head. I took my lunch break and never went back.. the head supervisor asked me what happened and i told her.. she asked if i was coming back i told her i would but i aint working with that guy.. she said i will see what i can do..

3 days later she called me and said your fired for 3 NCNS.. i was like wtf you said u would call back with a different position.. she goes rules are rules..

After that i didnt care.. i didnt care when i walked anyway.. so walmart can keep thier crap jobs and shove them up thier asses.

damn spell check isnt working.. oh well..

I would literally starve in the streets before working at Wal-Mart. I hope someone unionizes them and soon, because they treat their employees like rented mules and drive jobs overseas so they can sell their crap so cheap.

This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
