Because then I'll probably get his job. I've been unemployed since June 2010 and now I might get a job, but they're gonna fire this guy first. I don't feel bad about it, is that weird?
They said the guy is not doing is job, so he probably deserves to get fired. But I kinda feel like I should feel guilty, wainting for someone else to get fired.

If he ain't doing his job, he deserves to be fired, and if you stand to gain from it, it makes sense you're waiting for it to happen. It's fine.

I wouldn't feel guilty. However, I'd wish that there were spots for the both of us.

It was unprofessional of them to tell you that. How they manage their employees is none of your concern until you are one. At the most, you should get the diplomatic line, "We have to do some reorganization and then we'll be in touch with a start date." As it is, you'll hear enough about the old guy from the other employees when you get his job, especially if he was as bad as they say he is.

^^^

This.

Also, what if he *doesn't* get fired? They might change their minds, or something. Do you have a backup plan?

If he doesn't get fired, then i'll just keep looking for work.
It wasn't the employers who told me that they were gonna fire him actually, i heard it from someone who recruts employes for them.

Unprofessional. I'd suggest for your own sake, you never mention your prior knowledge to anyone in the office.
Also, totally unprofessional to allow people outside of your own organization that you have a lame duck on your hands.
