Went through two phone interviews for a job I really wanted (albeit one I would've had to relocate for, but I'm pretty accepting of that fact now) and learned today I DIDN'T GET IT! UGH! I can't keep going on like this. I've been out of work since January of last year despite having a master's degree. I don't know what to do anymore...I hate the idea of having to go on disability, but I have no choice. What's worse is I don't have the motivation to keep going....I don't see how I can. I really just want to end it all :(

With the unemployment rate as it is, you can't take personally any job rejections. Hundreds of thousands of well-qualified people are out of work right now.

They've been out of work over a year?

I guess after two phone interviews, I had really hoped I would get this job.

Do bear in mind that you're still doing better than some of us.

I've been unemployed for over three years - I've only had 5 interviews at most, the longer unemployed the worse it gets and I believe I've been blacklisted by most employment agencies given as I struggle using the phone to arrange interviews, I had a work trial but it was horrific so I had a meltdown which has thrown my confidence, I was [wrongfully] fired from my last job, my life is totally on hold, and I am facing serious prejudice from the job centre not to mention their usual attitude of making it as hard as possible for people to get back into work.

I'm not playing the 'Woe is me' game...well, maybe a little bit...but remember it's not been long, at least you still have some hope of getting a job, you have a masters which is a lot more than many other people, and at least you're getting told you didn't get it rather than hearing nothing back from anyone. I hate it when people say 'it could be worse' because it implies your problems aren't bad, they are and I have no doubt you are frustrated and upset, I'm just saying that you do still have hope so hold on in there honey!

*hugs*

I know there are people who are worse off and I am truly sorry about that, but there's also a lot of people better off. And what's worse...I know that at least some of these people are dumber/less qualified for a job than I am, but they have one because they have connections/good social skills :x

I mean when I look at the other people who finished the same graduate program as me, yes, they had SOME trouble finding jobs, but not as much as I have.

And yeah I do think the longer I'm unemployed, the harder it is. I DO know someone who got a job after a year and a half of looking, but I'm going to pass that benchmark soon enough.

It is hard. I did not mean to imply it shouldn't feel hard.
Yeah, my aspie son was unemployed a little over a year. Now he has a contract job that pays little and has no health benefits, and his COBRA ran out. He's looking for coverage for a pre-existing condition that takes incredibly expensive medication. He may not find any and I suppose we'll need to take over his health costs.
