I have ASD/AS and I am a junior in high school and every time I do something that requires me to do a work activity and I need help other students always tell me I am doing the worksheet wrong and it is really annoying. This is how the situation plays out:

Student1: Hey can I help you with your work?
ME: Sure
Student1 looks at worksheet: *Facepalm reaction* DUDE OH MY GOD THIS IS SO WRONG!! !

And for some reason they are always like this every time I get a assignment wrong. Usually they would say to me "That is not how you do the work sheet" or "Your not getting this" and they would just barge right in my way and just do my work and show me how to do the work which really makes me mad. I never show my work to other people but when I am in a cooking class or something because I have a hard time understanding directions on assignments for some reason and I am doing the cooking activity and they would get really mad at me because of how long I am taking. I would like to know am I the only one like this?

Aspies often take instructions literally, not realizing that NTs are rarely precise in what they say. In fact, if you let an NT talk long enough, it is quite common for them to contradict themselves, saying something different from what they initially said. But, NTs really like helping each other out. It is hard, but it would help if you could learn to be gracious about getting corrected--saying stuff like "thanks--I don't know what I was thinking"

DUDE OH MY GOD THAT IS SO RUDE!! !

I was told not to talk that way in the second grade, for crying out loud. :x

If you want to "help" someone with their work, calmly point out "Okay, this would sound better like this..." and show them.

Sheesh. How would they like it if the teacher "corrected" them in the same manner? :ncool:

Stop accepting this kind of *help.* People like that are insensitive jerks.

Folks are rude to Aspies because we don't pick up social clues. This can change if you learn to pick them up and properly acknowledge them.

In this case the other student had no excuse--he was looking at a worksheet, not reacting to user1001's actions.
