My job has been stable for a few years now without much stress. I haven't had many changes at all. The same staff for the most part has been here for the past 5 years which has made it very comfortable. They know how I work and are very good with it.

I just found out that the office manager is leaving next week which is stressful enough but also a couple of other people are leaving as well. Fortunantely one of my best friends was given the job of office manager so that has helped eleviate the stress. I was also just talking to a co worker and they mentioned that the director would probably retire this July or at the lastest the following July.

Thios has caused me to stress out completely. I can't help but think that with a new boss my routine will have to change. I could even be laid off. It is also tough because my wife works here to so I am suddenly thinking that we may both be laid off. I realize that this will probably not happen but I feel like I am on the verege of a complete shutdown as all I can think of is the negative and I can't stop worrying about what might happen a year or two away.

I absolutley hate change!

You at least have some time to prepare that they are going after the initial shock. You can think about what might happen e.g. recruitment for the post, or a temp or a handover, depending on what happens in your workplace. It is then a bit more predictable and a cycle of people coming in and out of the workplace following procedures.

You could start preparing careerwise and look at your CV and start looking out for jobs so you are more in control of the situation.

I'm sure it was no coincidence that I'd had enough of my job and went off sick when one colleague announced she was pregnant, another resigned and another was going for retraining, all in a week.
