Long haul trucking companies using trucks with sleeper compartments assign a truck to a driver and it's their truuk until they take vacation and they park it at a terminal and most likely they will hold that truck and not let anyone use it while somebody is on vacation.If they need the truck they will remove the drivers stuff and store it at the terminal.

During the rest of the year most drivers just take them home for the weekend or a few days off because they don't live near a terminal,but for 2 weeks off the companies usually want their truck parked at a terminal in case they need it.

The guy left all his personal stuff in the truck and went home for vacation and after a few days the UPS driver is standing their with his cooler and a few boxes of stuff. They didn't even have the balls to call the guy and tell him they didn't want him back after vacation, so they sent the UPS driver to fire him

First off, if I were that driver who was fired, I would show up for work on the next workday I was suppose to work. As far as I would have been concerned, I received no official notice that I was fired.

Second, it seems that when it comes to firing, most people will pass the buck rather than do the job they were hired to do. This happens more than most people think.

As far as the industry, if you do work in the truck industry and do take a vacation, not only should you remove your stuff from the truck, but you should also do a thorough inspection of the truck (including pictures if you have a digital camera) before you leave the truck and once you return before you take the truck out. Many a person has been blamed for damage to vehicles they did not do because they did not report it to the company.

Why waste the gas and time going back to the terminal after vacation ??

Unlike normal jobs they can fire any driver any time they want by just down loading the trucks computer and getting out the drivers logs and the driver hung himself by doing the job. There is no such thing as running legal and keeping a dispatcher happy, so every driver gets the job done and makes it look good on paper so the dispatcher won't screw the driver who gets paid by the mile. They would just fire him over his log books not matching the computer and for speeding and for excessive idling

It is easier to just take the hint and go find another job than be convinced to quit. They would send him to NJ on a friday and leave him there for the weekend and than monday get him a load going someplace near a tire plant and get him a load of tires he has to unload and makes sure it will be going to someplace that is 100 degree's

there is little sense in going back and having a trucking company dreaming up nasty things to do to you so you will quit. Not only will they find the rotten freight to haul,they also will starve you to death

Illegal immigrants got more job protection than truckers and aren't dumped on as much even picking crops
