I've been unemployed now for two months. I previously worked in a call center, I had been there 3 years and 9 months when they let me go. They decided to terminate me after I was suspended after being issued a warning for my 3rd call guideline violation. The primary focus of my job was retention. people would call in to cancel magazine subscriptions that automatically renew and get charged to their credit cards. There would be many that would call unhappy about it saying it was an unauthorized charged when in fact it wasn't, they were just unaware of the terms. The magazine subscriptions come from various companies that offer them to their customers as a way of saying thanks for their business. usually they get them free for the first 3 months. We had a goal that we had to meet of a 5% save rate. thats the % of subs we had to get our callers to keep. One day i had a person call wanting to cancel her magazines and get refunded. i cancelled 2 of her magazines. On 1 of them i asked her if she would like to keep it if i refunded the fee of a $1. She agreed to that and so thats what i think. I think she thought she had cancelled it and that what i got in trouble for. Before I worked here i was at another call center at got fired there too, after i admitted to doing somethign i didn't know was wrong. This girl who seemed to be a friend, we would email each other at work, had given me her phone number and i used it to access her parents account, they had purchased a computer from Dell, and we worked as customer care reps. all i wanted to know is her address of where she lived. I think this incedent was more to do as a result of possilbly having AS. I'm not diagnosed but alot of what i read about it, the way its described makes me think i am. Between these last two jobs that i was fired from i was without work for 3 1/2 months. Most of the time i was at the 2nd job, the one i was at for 3 years and 9 months, i worked on the Bank One/Chase project. It was mostly people calling up to apply for credit cards. I got sick of that. I was also driving 50 miles each way to work. I've applied at least 12 different places and nothing yet. Tomorrow morning on August 3rd, i have an interview at Dominos. I applied there for a driver position. I'm hoping to get it, cause i longing to have some income again.

if aol weren't about to fire everyone in their call centers, I'd tell you to come work at aol. they used to focus on retention as well.

aol is laying off all people in the call centers?? 8O weird but in a way i knew it was going to come down to this it all started in june with mumbai india's call center then moved it to phillappines. i have not talked to my aol tech friends since india got told to not do tech anymore back in april about the layoff.

i wonder are aol users now going to get the automated thing and NO HUMANS now when they call for help???

i hope whatever they do they bring help back to usa or at least hire people who at least have a college degree in computers not some asian who just decided to walk in off street asking for a job.

but i guess thats OUTSOURCING for ya. hmm just if there was a call center in nj.... id sure join to actually give help not give teh runaround like vincent ferrari got when he called to cancel his account.

good luck dude. looking for work sucks ass. there's just to many f*****g steps needed to be involved getting hired almost anywhere nowdays. whatever you do don't go to your states rehabilitation services for the ret*ds, unless you know exactley what you want to do for the rest of your life.

tell me about the sucsess you've at your states vr offices. ive wasted more time at these trying to get a job than i can handle. i always get these f*****s that dont really give a s**t about me or any of the obsticales in my life, they just think im being stubborn when i dont want to sit down for an entire month to learn how to do a resume. ive made it very clear about what kinds of jobs i want and can do, and its like all they want me to do is all this ret*d s**t that has nothing to do with the job i want. see now? so ultimatley i get frustraited cuss the caseworkers out and leave in a pissed off mood untill the next time i have to be there, usually i have to be their once a week. im not trying to be difficult or anything im just tired of their fatasses putting me in situations i don't want to deal with.

WHat constitutes to you as ret*d s**t? Normally, I view my state's rehabilitation service as kind and helpful, but now that I've been reading up on this site posts that kind of bash the rehabilitation services, I now feel caught in the middle between accepting the "help" from the rehabilitation service and/or rebelling against it. Sorry for all the questions. I'm not trying to make anyone here angry or anything.

you're rehabilitaion services sound like a fun feild trip, what state do you live in? the reason i get so upset with thse clowns is because i don't know how much more clearer i can make myself about the kinds of jobs i want to them. the first time i went to vr, i wasted two months just meeting with a counseler to talk about my life. (im thinking why am i doing this?) it seemed like a huge waste of time. now since i quit, the first time because she was so insensitive and didn't really pay attention to what i was telling her i needed to succeed, she wants me to prove to her that i want to work. i mean what?? also i have to role play with her (wich i hate doing) and she wants me to fill out the applications i get right infront of her to make shure im doing it correctly. <---- this really makes me feel ret*d. i also have to learn how to do a resume but its pretty pointless because i've only had like two or three jobs my entire life. all of wich were low paying service jobs so i highley doubt my future employer will look at it and say; oh you were a dishwasher? you're hired! more than likely they won't even care or not if i was a dishwasher or if ive only had a few jobs in my career.

AOL is now free so we don't need as many call centers.

It is the issue of interviewing and negotiation skills were aspies/auties particularly auties really need a hand up. Employment agencies should be perfectly mindful of that.
