Jobs with a social component
Ive been told that we have to work from the bottom in companies to get somewhere or you gotta start out at lower level jobs in order to get some work history to back you up. I notice so many bottom level jobs seem to involve a significant social component like working as a cashier, working as a office clerk, etc. So being aspies this kinda screws us.
Right now Im working at Safeway as a courtesy clerk and struggling with the social interaction parts and risking not passing probation. My manager says I am improving tho, I just hope that they chose to let me pass. I've pretty much nailed all the other aspects of the job.
It seems in the NT world, winning people over socially is more important then actual skills.
Hmm, I do fine on those short term social interactions as they are largely scripted or rather they follow a predictable pattern. In other words, you can learn it through observation. I think bartending for 15 years helped me with this.
The social skills I lack would be negotiating office politics. I would be like a babe in the woods in that scenario.
