How can I control my meltdowns in the work place?
I am a 21 year old aspie, who cant get a job because of my constant melt downs in stressful situations.
I have always suffered melt downs when i am stressed.
Usually when i have a melt down i get really really stressed, n then end up crouching down and it almost looks like an anxiety attack, I end up making a weird noise that sounds like a chicken, then i will usually run away from people where i can be somewhere safe and alone until i can get my bearings.
I am really sick of my melt downs as i become very embarressed by them.
Is there anyway of coping better in stressful situations for aspies?
My parents refuse to believe i have aspergers, and would not let me get tested for it, now I am waiting to be assessed now that i am old enough. So i have no real idea how to cope or deal with melt downs.
If your having meltdowns at work, thats clearly a problem and you "need" to get tested. Either way, you probably need some sorta doctors note saying that you have really bad anxiety problems. If you cant control your meltdowns then you need some sorta medical intervention.
As for testing, your 21, you can technically get tested without your parents permission. Tho the situation is probably a bit sticky considering Im guessing your under your parents insurance plans.
If your undiagnosed, are you certain that you are aspie? Do you have other aspie problems interfering with your life?
Teredia, it sounds like you should give serious consideration to just what kinds of jobs you can do. I can't work in an environment where I'm forced to deal with a constant flow of strangers, or one that requires thinking quickly under pressure (for instance operating a cash register and constantly dealing with new customers). Maybe you should look for jobs where you can work more or less alone in a calmer environment. A quiet office is always preferable to a busy retail outlet.
I don't like to recommend people get on meds, because I have a healthy skepticism and suspicion of laboratory pharmaceuticals, but I have found Chamomile to be very effective as an antianxiety tool. You can brew it in tea, but you have to make it very, very strong - like 4 bags per cup; or you can buy it online in gelcaps. If you use it as tea, you can take it to work with you in a covered travel cup. I'm told its equivalent to a couple of Xanax. All I know is, it does work, and it doesn't leave you feeling stoned.
Good luck getting diagnosed.

From my own struggles with OCD, this kind of sounds like a second-order thing, like where I fear the fear. This can become a spiral. I really encourage you to take a deep breath, and try and step back. If you have a meltdown, you have a meltdown, so be it.
Like Ai_Ling suggests, a doctor's note that you have an anxiety issue, and let is stay vague.
Or as Willard suggests, maybe an herb that reduces anxiety. Still real medication, but perhaps one we as the human race have more experience with.
And as far as getting a diagnosis, please remember, some doctors are good listeners or good enough, and some just aren't. As a patient and as a human being, you always have a right to a second opinion.

Yeah I do, quite a lot. I don't know when to shut up,ill just keep talking nd talking. I cant tell when someone is nagry with me. I never give eye contact to strangers, I keep t myself heaps. Don't like having friends over. Dont like loud noises, cant stand being touched especially if im not prepared for it.
The list really goes on for me. My 2 aspie friends see it more in me as they have to deal with me on a daily/weekly basis. They told me to go get tested for it. Theyve been calling me an aspie for sometime. and while i am waiting for the Northern Territory Health System to get back to me about assessment it is a slow long and painful wait...
.
Thank you willard, as much as i despise the taste of chamomile i might at well try n tollerate it if it can keep me relaxed. =)

I've read about depression, and I tend to think any medication or herb affecting the biochem of the human brain in any way, broader than depression, probably including anxiety as well, the baseline is: might work great for some people, but not for others. Biochem is just complicated, and everyone's is a little different. That in a very respectable sense, it is trial and error. Medium step, observe feedback, take another medium step, etc.
