There is really no winning formula.
Job interviews are stressful.
Job auditions might be better to gauge your actual ability to do a job, but then you could have "performance anxiety."
I've always dreaded the idea of an "interview lunch" where they take you out to eat and discuss the possibility of working with them. It's never been offered to me, but when I'm nervous, anything I eat or drink will make me gassy (often belching), and as if a job interview isn't stressful enough (I don't eat or drink anything immediately before an interview), adding in the concern about social faux paus at a dinner table only makes things worse.
I don't want a winning formula as much as a job that is intellectually challenging, regardless of how difficult it is. I'm going to have performance anxiety at first; in fact, I'm probably not going to be able to successfully work a job that doesn't initially give me performance anxiety, because high risk comes with high reward, and I want a high reward. As long as I want the high reward, I'm willing the take the high risk.
