Hello everyone,

I want to celebrate the fact that I have just now finally gotten on permanent disability in Ontario. They are paying me $1600 per month plus full drug coverage. If any of you are in Ontario and want to get on disability I can tell you the ins and outs of it and how to receive the maximum amount you're entitled to. My psychiatrist helped me a great deal and made sure I'd get awarded full disability. He is in Scarborough (Toronto). If any of you are in the Toronto region and need a helpful psychiatrist who'll make sure you get your disability, just ask me for his references.

I am one of those people who could always get a job, but could never keep one and kept getting fired from every job I had over 20 years. I look and act like a normal person but I can only keep up the fake "normal" act for up to a few months and then people begin noticing I'm weird and that's when all the problems start. The office bullying, the disciplinary hearings, the sudden firings with "No Reason Stated" in the form where they have to give you the reason. After 20 years of constant firings I lost all confidence in myself and actually developed a panic disorder associated with going to work. When it was time to go to work in the morning I would shake and cry and be unable to make myself leave the house.

And on that note..... thank you so much to the amazingly kind poster from WP who sent me $200 for food this past November. I was not receiving any benefits at that time and had run out of food and didn't even have enough gas to go to a food bank or a church. If it was not for your kindness, I would have been dumpster diving for food or going round to my neighbours begging for canned goods.

That's great. :)

That's what the money should be there for. People who really need it.

1600 $ a month? In Norway, that would rent you a small 2 room apartment for a month...

Congrats! Some people really abuse the system--it is good to see someone who needs get some real help!

I am not in Ontario, but I live in Nova Scotia and was also thinking of going on disability. I do not know if I would be able to. I have severe HFA, but I am a full-time student. I get the absolute maximum student loan (which shows how broke I am). I do work, but I have trouble keeping a job as well. I am only 27, and have already had at least 40 jobs. The one I am at now, I have had since September, but work 10 hours or less a week. I usually get a few shifts a month and that is all. I don't think I could handle working more than that. Although I am working really hard for me degree, I do not know if I will be able to get and keep a good job when I am finished. Right now, I have no money. I still live with my parents because I cannot afford even a dump of an apartment, let alone the bills and other expenses that go along with living alone. I do not buy my own groceries, and if it were not for my parents, I would probably be surviving out of the campus food bank. Knowing the Canadian system yourself, do you think I would qualify for disability?

I live in Kingston and have started the process of applying for disability. I am lucky that I have a supportive psychiatrist who has agreed to fill out the medical report. I am waiting to get it back from her so I can submit my application.
How long did you have to wait after you submitted yours? I was told by my ODSP caseworker that I would get $1000; how did you get $1600?
Any advice you can share would be appreciated.

glad you got your disability. can I ask, was it for aspergers or something else?

I am on disability for bipolar disorder. I only get 722 a month, though.

Wow, here you can get 250 euro which doesn't even cover your food for a month, let alone about housing.

Congrats. I've had mine since Jan this year. I live in the States and I get the max(934) I earned a month. I was approved on my first application attempt.

My situation is the same but for me I have trouble even getting jobs. The ones I do get are those usually at nearly the entry level that are high turnover. I also get fired with a very vague reason or no real reason. My unemployment claims have been open, put on hold when I get temp jobs, then re opened when I lose them. I never had an employer or temp agency challenge a claim however but now I feel like I am unemployable and on some type of 'blacklist'. Temp agencies call me about jobs, say they will submit my Resume or talk to their team and then I never hear from them again
