(God, I hate the limit on the stupid subject line).....crappy schedules? I started a part-time job....my boss gives me very little notice on my schedule, he has me work different shifts, and he accommodates everyone else's schedule except mine. The high school dropout gets a better schedule than I do.

Anyone have any advice?

Go on disability. 500 dollars a month to do nothing and not deal with idiots.

Ha ha I already applied and was rejected (they're not likely to give disability to someone with a master's degree), but for the record, I would've gotten between 700 and 800.

You have a part time job. During the other part, you could look for better work.

What other work?

In this economy a crappy job with a crappy schedule and crappy pay is the pinnacle of success because so many dont have jobs at all.

Dear natural plastic, while what you say is good generalization, you never know when somebody will die and open up your dream job.

Yeah, SadAspy, I have an associate's degree and it took me 3 years to get it and my mom drove me lol. I ended up with a 2.9 but like I said I was taking 3-4 classes at a time and don't have a driver's license. Also couldn't handle university, socially or academically.

This is probably because you don't have seniority. You're the new guy. I'm assuming your coworkers have been there longer than you. You'll probably get more flexibility as you work there longer.

That very well may be the case, but it still sucks. I don't think any jobs should function this way...it's very arbitrary. The high school dropout does NOTHING when he's there. How about giving privileges to those who are better employees? I guess that would make too much sense.

Leave this job if you can find something better. You didn't say much, but from what you wrote I don't think it's worth staying in this place.

Can't find any other job, as I have no qualifications that employers desire. I really don't deserve anything more than a minimum wage job.

So does anyone have any advice on how I could get my supervisor to give me more notice? I've already quit two jobs this year....don't really want to have to do it again.

Update: now my supervisor is cutting my work days from four to three days, even after promising me the latter. I just got done cutting myself...that'll show him when one of his employees has marks all over him.

:!: Gosh cutting youself because of other people's bad behaviour is not worth it really!

Does your supervisor have a boss you could bring this up to? Does your company have another department you could transfer to?

Oh yes.

Where I work at, I have been there 3 years. Once the old manager left and we got a new manager, it was all over. My hours got cut all the way down to 4 hours a week, from 30+. And this is even after I told the new manager that I needed at least 25 hours a week to make rent. Still, they will not budge on the issue. Yet they'll give a guy who just started there 2 months ago 25+ hours and he doesn't even need the money! (he's gone on record to say to me that he is just there for extra money).

What's even worse is that the majority of the new people at my workplace have all pulled at least 1 no-call no-show (which is supposed to be an automatic termination after only one of them!) yet they are still on the schedule. Just a couple months ago, a girl didn't show up when she was scheduled and didn't call. I came in and the assistant manager said that the girl didn't show up. Well the manager just sat there and was like "sshhhh! SHHHH!" real loud trying to get him to shut up. It basically ended with the girl getting fired (he likely wouldn't have fired her if I wasn't there). But they know that if I were to pull something like that, I'd get fired. And let's not even get into the time that a guy called off claiming he was sick, and then the manager saw him riding his bike down the street and didn't even reprimand him for what he did (I know this because I worked with him the next day)! This guy is still on the schedule and still getting lots of hours!

Also I was promised more hours. One week I got 11, then the manager said "you're gonna get more hours next week!" I look at the schedule, aaaaannnnnd......I was cut down to 7 hours.

Really wish I had a tape recorder or a video camera or something so I could capture all the crazy stuff they're doing and show the higher-ups what's going on..... :?
