Hypersensitivities and sensory overload are actually the largest factor in me not working.

I agree with the above.

For me, it's multitasking. I work at McDonald's as a cook so whenever I make the burgers, the managers expects me to be able to change my recipe for a person who may not like cheese in their Big Macs when he says so. Sometimes I don't catch it and I have to start a new order.

Also I can't perceive comments or requests immediately so I have to ask people things at least twice which irritates some of my colleagues.

Aspects affecting my Aspie husband at work: stress, organization skills, problems with schedules, problems to fulfill deadlines.

An inability to understand or play into workplace politics.

In many jobs if you're not part of workplace politics, you're not part of the workplace - we tend not to gel with those who do play into workplace politics, unfortunately those people are often the management; I've often found myself on the receiving end of outright abuse from managers, I think because I don't brown-nose or give respect where it's not due, I'm seen as not playing the game.

We put more emphasis on actually doing work correctly and doing it well, where as gossiping and game playing seems to be how others gain power, so you're viewed as a threat for being different.

For me, it's travel (I live in a rural area in the mountains where the weather is unpredictable and the nearest jobs are at least 30 minutes away driving) and the fact that I can't follow verbal instructions very well without messing up.

Noise, light.. basically any sensory over load you may have and then the obvious of office politics.
The stranger thing is that your routines may also be a trigger for being different.
