My work just installed a video camera system in my work area. Nothing has been done wrong, and nothing has been stolen, so there is no good reason for the boss to point a camera at our work area. (I don't work in retail so that is not a factor here.)

I have always felt like a trusted employee. This feels like a direct insult to my integrety. It's like the boss is saying that the employees can't be trusted any more.

I am very uncomfortable with having the unblinking eye of a camera looking at me while I work. I feel like it is the same thing as if the boss is looking over your shoulder with a hand held camera for your whole work shift. I can't feel comfortable with the thought of this. It feels like someone is staring at me. Having cameras watching me has raised my anxiety level to the point that I can't think of much else. I may start making mistakes because of this distraction.

I am going to talk to the boss about this sometime soon. I may not say the right thing, but I feel the need to say something about it.

Have any of you Aspies/Auties had to deal with this kind of thing, and what did you do?

Thanks!

When I was a little kid I remember being terrified of video cameras I thought people were watching me just so they could judge me. So I always felt uncomfortable in stores and thought I had to behave a certain way. Now that I'm an adult I know that's just BS. Even in the work place. I don't think that they installed camera's because they don't trust you. They could have done it for many valid and sensical reasons. For instance what if they put up the cameras for insurance reasons so that if something did happened they'd have better coverage from their insurance agency because they took the liberty of making the building more secure. I highly doubt that the camera's will affect you at all. I don't think they put them up to spy on their employees, and the best thing you can do is just pretend they aren't there. Unless your employer is actually complaining about things he saw you do wrong on camera you really have nothing to worry about. I don't think your employers would take the time out of their day to watch you on camera and critic you. The best way to make you feel comfortable is to ask why they put up the camera's. Like has there been any threat of a break-ins on the street you work on. That's a normal question to ask.
