I'm old enough, all I need to do is get a workers permit and bring my grades up. Are there any Aspies you know who work at Hot Topic? How hard is it to work there as an Aspie?

I know people who have worked there, and according to them you have your rushes and stuff, but people wise and employment wise they are generally very accepting of people who are different.

I'm not sure why you would want to...what with all the noise, smells, funky lighting those stores usually have.
But if you do, do me a favor. Don't be another one of those employees who looks at me like a freak because I don't have piercings all over my face. Every time I've gone into a Hot Topic (usually drawn in by something I like quite a lot) I've ended up being treated like I waltzed in wearing a sweater set and pearls, doing the Queen wave. I don't walk in assuming things about the people who work there, but it seems like very often they don't offer the same courtesy.
On the flip side, a "mall store" job will do that to a lot of people. You get a lot of people wandering into a clothing store wanting a sandwich and demanding to know why you personally hate them and refuse to go get them the sandwich they KNOW you have in the back room. Clearly not a real-life example, but an environment like that can be difficult.
It could be really great because it's a cool store and probably has a LOT less of the corporate BS, sell these discount cards and give out coupons and WHY did you not ask for that person's phone number? Most stores are pretty heavy on add-ons, but I don't think Hot Topic does that quite as much.

rofl hot topic smells much better than all those perfumey stores, are they TRYING to give me an asthma attack?! I don't have any piercings but I dye my hair bright colors so I guess I'll fit in :D Don't worry, if i ever see you (though I probably won't) I won't be an arse hole, it's just not my personality. I'll probably joke around a bit, but not in a mean way.

You can plan all you want, but I doubt they're hiring

I completely agree with you there! I worked (for about a month) in a popular "Bath & Body" store. It was ridiculous. Not only did they have one of those scent infuser things going ALL THE TIME, they played the same ten songs on repeat the entire duration of my employment. Not to mention they really get mad when you don't push products...it's like, why would I try to sell these poor people a bunch of stuff that has basically no value to the human body, other than it "smells nice"?

And thank you! I was worried I sounded like a jerk, and it's definitely not how I meant it. I'm from a rural area, my state maybe has one Hot Topic in it. I guess it stands to reason that most of the people who wander in that look like me start screaming about the devil's music. I'd look at me funny too.

Hot Topic in Australia doesnt seam to stressfull then again i work in Retail, while i find it hard to learn all the stock i need to n know about so much more cause im selling safety gear, i am picking it up an learning, I dont work at a Hot Topic but i do work in retail none the less...

I also know n aspie that works at a burger joint and one in child care so stress doesnt affect every aspie teh same so it seams...
I find the Hot Topic stores here in Australia fairly laid back, they dont seam too stressfull at all..
