Tips on my first real job
I start my first REAL job next Monday. I am both exited for it and nervous for it. Exited that i am getting my first real start (even though i am on a trial period before i could get hired but its a start none the less) and nervous that i may make alot of mistakes that would make me look bad. This is my first crack at a real job and i want to make sure that i turn out to be a great hire for them. Il be doing software support/it work for a companies point of sales systems. I cant slack off like i did my other jobs and i have to prove my metal if i am able to make the right start.
I was also invited by the company to explain to then what my condition is. So i have prepared a description as to what it is, how it affects me etc. I am not gonna place in a negative light but make them aware of what i have and how i can work with them with regards to my disability.
I welcome any sort of tips as i start work next Monday.
I don't have any suggestions as far as the actual work; that you should be able to do regardless, and will be the primary basis for proving your mettle.
As far as explaining AS, I would suggest mainly explaining what it is to you, and how it applies to your strengths and weaknesses. That way, you give your employers a better picture of what to expect. Talking about the spectrum in general, and what it can be could give the wrong impression. State that a wide array of symptoms exists, but elaborate to that extend only if asked.
