I sold feeder insects. It did not make a large profit at all, but for the time it was a little something which was better than nothing. Insects are a special interest of mine, so it wasn't terribly difficult, but I would obsess over them a lot, hunching my back watching over them too long, and whatnot so that got annoying. I have learned not to be so obsessive over them and just let them do their thing. I wish I could do it on a large scale. Eventually, that's what I intend to do whenever I get the proper expenses for such a thing. I was wondering what everyone else did or is doing as their first job. I think it would be nice for those here who haven't had a job and are looking to see how others started out. I also think it would just be interesting learning more about the members here.

My first and only job was a summer job as an "assistant" in the construction industry. I mostly just carried materials and tools around and got everything prepared, then cleaned stuff up as they finished with it.

When I was about seven years old, I used to walk around the neighbourhood doing gardening.

First job after leaving school was as an apprentice plumber. Lasted three weeks. Didn't understand what was expected, so didn't fit in fast enough.

First job I had that actually lasted a while was seven months on a dairy farm (1984). Worked about 80 hours a week for room, board and $10 per week.

When I was a kid sometimes my parents' couldn't find a babysitter so I often spent time at their office. They made me organize economic newspapers in chronological order and I loved it :D

I worked with my dad alittle when I was in high-school; he's a carpenter. I'm not cut out for construction; low vision, bad fine motor-skills, hate the heat & not very physically strong. I almost never talk about it thou because it was so long ago & when it comes to paper-work, employment history, taxes; it didn't happen. My 1st real job was a dish-washer at IHOP. I took it because an organization I was working with to help me find employment lined it up for me. I took it mostly to get some work experience. I hated the stress of rush-hour & getting chemicals on me

My first formal job where I filled out an application, got interviewed and was hired, was as a cashier at a grocery store when I was 17. I lasted nearly a year, in spite of hating nearly every second of it.

I was a hostess at an Italian restaurant when I was 16. It was kind of terrible. I'd spend night after night getting accused of being rude and unfriendly, which only helped to make me rude and unfriendly. :-)

My first job ever (non-paying) was when i was very young, between the ages 5-7, I helped with greeting people and organizing records at my mom and dads record store. My first paying job was at burger king, which I consider to be the worst working experience ever. I can barely eat fast food now due to how gross it was.

My first job was planting tree seedlings for a christmas tree farm. It was just a summer job, I was 18. It wasn't too bad, the people were mostly ok, except the head boss was a jerk with a short temper, who felt important because he could yell at a bunch of teenagers. It was a little difficult waking up so early to start work at 5:30, but getting off work at 2 was pretty cool.
