I'm an editor and writer. It's what I get paid to do. I love to write. I like it better than anything else in the world. Editing is ok. I like encouraging other writers and promoting their work.

But I can't deal with politics and emotional arguments and drama.

So I've decided to quit my "dream job" and go back to spread sheets. The stress of pushing against the grain is too much. So now I'll be alone in an office with spreadsheets and answering a phone all day.

Even though that is tedious and far from my "dream job," I'm really looking forward to it. The quiet, the logical orderliness of it all. I think it's going to be awesome.

But it really sucks that my AS makes it so difficult to be able to do my dream job. Really sucks.

Guess what? You can still write on your own time! There are even sites like Lulu.com that will help you get published, too. :D

This is true. I will always write. But it makes me so angry that it's the social politics that is making my dream job unmanageable.

You should also look into Create Space. This is an Amazon based company that allows people to sell physical paperback books as well as DVD's. They also provide a free ISBN or UPC.

Would it help to consider that it wasn't your "dream job" after all?

Every company is different with different politics. Maybe one day you will write for another organization with a more congenial atmosphere or with conditions where you can work independently. I've learned over the years that if my social skills are an obstacle, then I need to make myself excel in one or a few areas where I become indispensable, either because of rare talent or extreme competence. The popular and the indispensable are two groups of people that resist layoffs. Both are treated well and with respect.
