From what I've gathered, this is a brand new field of study which focuses on the automation process. I was wondering if anyone else here has heard Mechatronics degrees or have seen graduates in the workplace. I'm currently doing the prerequisite classes for my program, I was just wondering what the job prospects look like since there isn't much data out there yet, more importantly, I'd like to know how useful graduates are in the workplace.

It would seem any cross trained engineer would effectively call themselves a Mechatronic Engineer. As far as I know this is just a combination of Mechanical engineering, Computer/Software engineering, Electronic engineering, and maybe various other engineering disciplines. So my guess is there is already some built in graduates who hold the right combination of degrees and experience who could possible begin working in this field right away. I cant say I seen any specific college degree program by this name anywhere yet.

On a side note it was probably someone working in this field that caused my entire career field to slowly become obsolete by "automated remote provisioning centers". :(
