Does anyone know where is a good place in Los Angeles to volunteer at? I want to start volunteering at Special Education centers to work with those who have Intellectual Disabilities.

Check in your local phone book under volunteer, charity, etc. Also, ask the local school systems, and at the local library if they know where to sign up for such programs. One thing you need to know though, is that you will most likely have to pay for both a state, and a federal security check of yourself before you will be allowed to help any kids or disabled adults. Programs that help kids and the disabled don't want perverts and other criminals getting access to the clients, so there are now laws requiring new hires and volunteers to undergo a security screening process. Most organizations require the applicant to pay for their own security check. The reason why there are both a state and a federal check is because they are seperate prison systems. The state check will check for in state criminal records. The federal check will check federal prison records, and those of other states.

Hope this helps.

Are volunteers limited to adults or can teens volunteer too?
