I am an engineering student about to enter my sophomore year of college and I would like to hear about what engineering careers are like. I am particularly interested in computers, especially the hardware side, but I would love to learn about any type of engineering. So please tell me things like what you do, what you like and dislike about the job, and anything important to know for anyone interested in that field.

Civil Engineer by profession, but currently unemployed. I like the technical side of project work and solving site-specific problems. I hate the politics side of it (though in your case may be dealing with angry or unreasonable clients/customers).

One unfortunate aspect of my profession is although ASD's can excel in the technical aspect and are well suited, the higher-ups want extroverts with dazzling communication skills for the job and many will only consider those for employment. Plus they expect you to take a career path into management and business development/marketing, which many ASD's are incapable of. :wall:

Another piece of advice is to try to keep up with the newest software, programs, and techniques. You would likely need that if you need to find new employment.

Bachelor Degree in computer programming here, but I have never worked in a position relevant to my education(7 years since I graduated). I'm extremly introverted with AS and SAD. But hey, atleast I can be the family on-call computer expert when they need me to click restart when their computer freezes.
