Hi everyone,

I already have a degree in International Business, which was a result of pressure from my father, and now I am going back to University to finish the degree I started: Biology.

Do any of you have a degree in Biology and do you like your career? I am just collecting info at this point.

Thanks,

G.

I could finish my bachelor's in Biology in a year and I found it very interesting. In the US there are a lot more science jobs available than there was when I was first in school 10 years ago. If you're looking for a lab job after school, focus on human biology, medical biology, etc. so you can work in a hospital or testing center, both of which are steady jobs with benefits usually.

I have a degree in biology under my belt, as I do a Chemistry degree. my career has been all about Chemistry, and now work in the Oil&Gas industry, been a pretty good ride. What has helped me, especially with lab work, is my Aspie focus on a topic, it works well :) Bit harder these days as my job is more about the bigger picture and people, but so far so good.

Went Chemistry as its a surer bet as a career than Biology, at least in australia. You might want to consider incorporating Environmental management/engineering or similar as the demand for these expertise is growing by companies who are getting greater demands on the environmental management side of things. Do a search on any job website and theres rafts of these. Pure biology may not be the best way forward IMO.

I LOVED Biology, my degree was a lot of fun and so easy because of my interest, but I went practical. I do have moments where I wonder if it was the better way forward for me, but I can't regret my decisions.

If you love Biology, then go for it!

Thank you both for your input. I also love biology and therefore it comes naturally. I talked extensively to my therapist about my job worries. (She is also an aspie.) She did some career tests along with my MBTI (I'm an INTP) and it basically told me what I already knew deep inside. The last time I recall being happy is when I was studying biology the first time. I guess I am just worried due to all of the nightmares I've had in school/work so far in my life. I think, when I am finally doing something I like, things will be a bit different. Also, I have health issues I deal with on top of AS, so I am trying to make the best decision for my future. As an aspie, I tend to overthink everything. Haha. I'm just going to trust my judgment and go for it.

G.

This. Always trust your judgement, you know what you love and want. Go for it. Never second guess yourself in these matters :)

I don't have a biology degree, but am an INTP. And INTP's are big picture thinking information whore creative problem solvers. Whatever you do it better be mentally stimulating or you will get bored. And boredom is career death to INTP's. I'll bet you'd love research, but pull your hair out if you had to do routine lab work over and over. Good luck.

I need to keep this in mind. I DO plan on going to grad school.
