Just seeing are there any CPA's here?

I am one, but I work in Industry. I just hope I am not the only one here. I would be comforting to know other CPA's have Aspergers.

Thanks
Bill

Or do you work in accounting and would like to be a CPA one day? Do you like numbers?

Hi Bill,

I am a CPA with aspergers who works for my self. I have been struggling business wise ( do not have a CPA license in this state). but am an enrolled agent. How long did you work for a CPA firm.

CPA here, but my license is currently inactive....long term unemployed. Hoping to relocate sometime this year and re-start my career. Not really interested in working in public anymore---I did a year with a Big 4 and hated it....don't think I really have the social/salesmanship skills to make it in public accounting.

I have an accounting degree (and MS in Finance) and feel virtually unemployable. I started studying for the CPA but I gave it up since I am 36 with very bad credit and a poor employment history (just scattered temp jobs since 2009) so instead I am concentrating on buying & running my own business (I will discuss this in a new thread) instead of spending time & money on something that won't get me anywhere because of bad credit (all large companies run credit checks and will reject you if you have a large amount of past due debt) and a poor employment history..

What really sucks more is hearing about how strong the job market is where I am and how accounting & finance grads are being snapped up with incredible offers similar to that of the late 1990s, 2000.

I wish I could get back the past 16 years. I am currently on Adderall of 30MG a day, Prozac 80MG a day, Risperidone 1 MG a day and DMAE (an OTC supplement). This combo has really helped in my current temp position (which ends in early April)

Not a CPA yet...I have a couple months before I get my license since I have to fulfill the work experience requirement in my state.

I work for a Big 4 accounting firm and, to my surprise, I actually enjoy it. I think that's because I work in an office with a lot of people and therefore don't have to fit in as much as I do if I was working with a handful of people. Plus if I'm on a team where I don't like the people, I have the comfort of knowing that I will be on a different team later on. Overall, it's great.

I will probably be one in a few months. In my country, the license is called "Carteira de Identidade Profissional do Conselho Regional de Contabilidade" or CRC, for short. It roughly translates as "Professional Identity Card of the Regional Accounting Council". We have to pass an exam to receive it, and I will try it on September 23. If I pass (I am very confident, even though the approval rate is around 30%), I will receive my license at the end of the year (November, I think).

Also, I am already working at an accounting office, although I am still doing menial tasks like scanning documents and organizing files. I am still in my third week, but today my manager told a coworker (who is going on hiatus for a month) to teach me what I need to know to take over his tasks. When I get my license, they will surely give me other opportunities.

Sorry for this terrible joke, by the way.

I'm really thinking about sitting for the exam next year. I've had five and a half years in auditing (albeit its niche - not sure whether that'll count for two years auditing or not) and at least don't feel like I'll be trying to find a new job with a bachelors, a CPA, AND no experience.

The thing I'm wondering though, do you guys have a particular study course you recommend? I'm looking at Gleim and I've heard it does well enough, curious on what your experience has been.

Hello,

As an adult with Aspergers(AS), I'm interested in hiring an Accountant who has had experience with (AS). It's very important to get the perspectives of professional services experienced with (AS).

Any specific recommendations for Accountants in the San Francicso Bay Area? Private message of specific recommendations for Accountants OK too!

Thank-you

ADDENDUM: An Accountant experienced with Aspergers(AS), or even an Accountant with (AS) can offer support services; that traditional agencies serving clientele on the Autism Spectrum are unable to offer!

Like many TECH. orientated communities (such as the SF Bay Area), many people in the TECH. industries have (AS); yet work in largely Neurotypical (NT) environments. Hence, the need for professional services that understand (AS) would be apparent.

Workplaces may not be the best places to get specific recommendations for outside professional services. Yet self-advocacy alone may not always be feasible either esp. in personal financial concerns!

For anybody reading this discussion thread, and living in the SF Bay Area, please inquire about locating specific Accountants experienced with (AS).

Thank-you
