I am due to start a new job as a nursing home administrator (care home for elderly people) in a few weeks and wondered if anyone else on here had experience of this type of work or of generally working in a nursing care home.

Haven't worked in a care home but I have lots of experience working with sick, elderly people. Are you going to be doing purely administration or will you be required to attend to some patient care? What are your expected responsibilities? I hope you find it a rewarding experience - you can learn so much from elderly people!

The job just covers administration work, no actual care. I don't have the people skills or patience to be able to take on a carer role but I find the medical side and all the systems used and recording of data interesting. I will be mainly using a computer in an office to type letters, minutes and reports and update databases with staff and resident data and spreadsheets with financial data. It's like most admin jobs, just in a care home.

Awesome - then you've got quite a sweet deal there. Try to learn as much as you can and good luck! :)

Thanks :) I'm doing as much research as I can while I wait to start.
