I applied for a position at a company. I know the manager and she has assured me I will get an interview and the rest is up to me.
Today I get the 'application rejected' letter

I trusted her... What now.

She may not have been able to get you on the shortlist, or the job requirements changed significantly.

I'd ask her what happened. Sometimes people promise too much, and she may feel bad about it as well.

It may not have been within her control. Where I work, hiring committees are 3-4 people. I had this happen to a friend.

I put his resume in and the committee reviewed it, but they out voted me and he didn't get interviewed.

I think that she should not have promised you an interview, but it's also possible that something changed between the time you submitted and you got the rejection.

People at work are very likely to hire their closest friend or a relative if possible. This has happened to me more than once with jobs that I was more than qualified for, even though I knew someone and they would speak well of me to the hiring person, eventually someone who was a closer friend or relative of the management were given the position. It stinks.
