I'm Seventeen and couldn't handle school because of my aspie status. So I got my Ged. Ok, well not too bad. But now I have a job, And the commission payed literally nothing because I suck. I f*****g suck at my job. I'm a Tele communicating Sales Rep. Well f**k. I got stranded in the wrong side of town and a misunderstanding ensued, because in phoenix AZ, I just hate the sunlight and it distorts my thinking process(atleast thats what it feels like). I Hate it. Got a black eye... No biggie I guess.
So maybe college will work. But High school didn't. God damnit. What if I go to a 4 year college and fail in that job field and have more loans than I can pay?
I don't know what to do. Job corp maybe? or can someone suggest a career path that works well in general with the aspie persona? Maybe Psychiatry? Nice and quiet. Computer IT? Would it really be practical for me? What should I do? I feel like I'm a failure.

It depends on your personality and your sensory issues. Common fields for aspies tend to be technical ones that do not involve a tremendous amount of human interaction. This would include things like IT and various engineering disciplines where the strong logic skills are a benefit. Likewise, certain sciences and mathematical fields are also appealing. Some are also successful artists because of the unique way the autistic mind works and the patterns it sees. You could also look at technical fields like doing mechanical work so long as you are not extremely sensitive to noise.

That helps a little. I have musical talent but would never rely on it. I'm seriously wondering If Computer IT sciences is as practical as people say it is.

We took our Aspie daughter to a place where they messure the things people are good for. Mostly because she has always said she wants to be a scientist and we just wanted to make sure if that was the best path for her (not because she couldnt, but because she shows habilities in several other fields as well). The evaluator said all fields with strict methodologies (science, IT, math, engineering, etc) are good for Aspies. My Aspie husband studied Computing Programming and he is a programmer. And very good at it. He loves solving problems (like playing chess and solving the Rubbik cube), and programming is ALL about solving problems. So yes, I would say IT can work. But you have to like it. You need to find something you like. If you love what you do it would be easier for you.

Psychiatry requires A LOT of school. You have to go to med school plus more. And there is a lot of social interaction, you have to talk to patients all day, and be able to read between the lines of what they are saying.

IT is a good field, and Arizona has a lot of call centers especially around Tempe. If your going to do IT though, keep in mind that with IT, experience can be more valuable than education. I know people with masters degrees in IT who can't get jobs because they have 0 experience.

Telesales is a very brutal profession even for the NT.
