I might add that selling cars is a lousy career choice for someone with Asperger's. Yes, I know this for sure.

Telemarketing?!?! I know we're a diverse group but...telemarketing?

I think a lot of customer service jobs where you have to deal with people and take a lot of complaints from customers may not be a good fit for an Aspie.

I taught elementary school for ten years (pre-diagnosis). It was overstimulating, endlessly conflictive, and often humiliating. I would not recommend such a career for spectrumites.

They are good suggestions, however I don't think you should have to choose one of those just because it's on the list of suggested jobs. If you want to do something else then do it. I want to work with animals, I'm not sure in what form but that sure isn't on the list...& I'm doing it anyway.

I agree with customer service and telemarketing being jobs that most people with Aspergers would have trouble with. I currently work in a customer service position and even though it pays well with benefits, there is a lot of emotional dealings with people, and I at times find the job very abrupt.

One of the best jobs for those with AS (even though it doesn't pay well and has crappy benefits) is security guard, especially in night watchman/industrial security positions. You have to make rounds and do other little jobs, but most of the time the job follows a routine and in many occassions you have time in between rounds to read, listen to music or work on your special interest.

Jobs where you have more of a routine or rhythm, and limited personal interaction with people are probably the best jobs for those with AS.

Try doing computer technical support on campus. There are days where it gets to you. Worse, this semester I picked some very odd hours that co-align with class times. Furthermore, half my problems are software related and it involves software I don't even use (Ask me a question about Meeting Maker, and I probably couldn't answer it).

well that was helpful... except the part of journalism that document suggests, copy editting, is probably the part of journalism I wouldn't be able to do... So much for going back to scholl for journalism... or period. *sigh*

That list leaves a bit to be desired.

Moving on, I can say from experience that being a nurse is a really bad career choice.

I'm faced with needing to make a career decision. I've been on disability for a few years but really want to return to work. I want to become a paralegal but the jobs have dried up.

the other thing I considered was electrician. it seems like a weird choice but wiring fascinates me and after learning the basics I don't have a problem replacing outlets, switches and lights or even running new wire.

but I sincerely wonder who would higher a middle aged woman as an electrician's apprentice?

I wouldn't mind being a building inspector, either, but not many jobs available for those, either and I definitely don't have the work experience.

I sit at a computer and edit photos all day. I only have to talk to two people, and usually that is to ask questions or ask to have a break. No chit chat.
So photo retoucher would be a good job for someone with AS.

Good to know! The majority of my jobs have been waitressing/customer service/cashier. I last a couple months at most...

Just by chance I am not doing any of those things now and have held down two part time jobs for 2+years (a record for me)
