Would Financial Planning be a good job?
Assuming you had a understanding of finance?

Yes, if...you don't mind the phone and can at least understand if not totally empathize with peoples' plights.
I have other handicaps - mostly visual, some eharing - as well so knew I had to find a profession, and chose law. I loved the idea at first of trying to figure out all the intricacies of things, but I realized once I was done I hated courtroom work, not as much becasue of the fact it was in a courtroom but because I was "too nice" according to some clients and just all the pressure. I burned myself out a bit.
Then i changed my practice (which has always been by myself) to almost all wilsl, estates, and probate, which I love. I overempathize with people, in fact. So, it's a lot like what you're thinking, I suspect.
I can find calling others on the phone a bit daunting, but if I have to do it and they know why I'm calling, if not who I am, I'm fine; I just need there to be common ground. So, I'll say, "Mr. x, one thing i forgot, who do you want to be your alternate executor," or I'll call someone and ask, "Did you get the payment ont he estate," and introduce myself as working on the 'x' estate, and I'm good to go.
So, if you don't mind those kinds of phone calls, it should be good.
Also, being able to show you understand something. i overempathize enough i've actually cried with cilents whose spouses have just passed away as if they were relatives, for instance. i'm not saying clients should always have a person like that, but it's good to at least be able to say, for instance, "I understand you're concerned because you want to be able to keep your house; here is my suggestion."
Being able to network will be very helpful, but you can do plenty of that just online with LinkedIn and others nowadays. If you can get to know some others socially who can refer clients to you that will be a plus. At times I'm never sure *when* to do that, and often needed encouragement my first few years to give someone a card, but that's the kind of thing that comes with practice, and I've had enough people just automatically give me their cards when i wasn't looking for them that I don't think there's that much to it.
Financial planning on what scale? I would recommend on the corporate level, my friend who is also an Aspie has done very well with her accounting/finance degree. She did CPA for a while then realized she really liked being behind the scenes on the computer so went into financial planning for a corporation.
I am thinking one on one with people, advice them on their portfolio, maybe sell insurance, and other financial products to help make their life easier. I am starting out in insurance, but might go into investments eventually. I did consider Wall St., but with various types of corruptions and pressures, I don't thing that would be the best place for me. But I still love finding deals on stocks, and making a buck off it, and sharing that with people. IDK, I just love finance in general, I just don't like office politics, stupid authority figures, and corruption. The big things for me is I hate groups. But I don't mind one on one. That is where I actually thrive! I can talk forever to one or two people (just don't know when to shut up).
