I had a troublesome episode yesterday. Just before leaving work people were giving each other 'fake' handshakes to say 'merry Xmas' before departing work.

I know they were fake handshakes because I attempted to give firm handshakes and this was rejected. People preferring just to touch hands in a gesture, without any real emotion attached to it?

I don't know what to make of this? I don't understand the jesture of having to shake hands when leaving work before Christmas, why is this different from leaving work on any other day? If they want to shake hands, why wouldn't it be a firm, emotive, handshake- why would you just lightly touch hands as a jesture?

(Like many NT traditions, I feel I screwed this up yesterday at work, several people were irrated by my behavior)

Any insights?

A lot of people (men included) have very weak handshakes. NT or Aspie.

I have two pet peeves regarding handshakes...
1. Weak handshakes.
2. People whose eyes dart around while shaking hands with me.

I have a weak handshake. I think it's for 2 reasons. One is that I'm quiet and passive. The other is that I don't want to shake hands and could think of a way to get out of doing it.
