Speak slowly and clearly. Don't ramble. Be very conscious of proper turn taking in conversation (dont talk over people or pause way too long). Depending on your field, the ability to be genuinely honest can be a real trust builder with potential customers. Don't be too articulate or technical cause most people will get lost.

Instead of answering questions, try to make people come to the conclusion you want by asking good questions to guide them to the answer you are desiring. Always make mental notes (or written ones if you on phones) about things people are looking for so you can use to close the sale. Try as hard as you can to seem comfortable and confident even if you feel like you wanna cry.

Hope that help.

Warning: I have zero experience in sales, though I sometimes read sales/marketing books for fun. I personally prefer sales books to marketing books because marketing books tend to overuse jargon.

You yourself must believe that the product that you are supposed to sell is the #1 product in the world. If you can't convince yourself, count yourself lucky if you manage to convince customers to buy this product. Unless you are 100% sure that badmouthing rival products will work, emphasize how good your product is rather than emphasize how bad rival products are. Remember that you are degrading yourself when you degrade others.
