Hey all,

I'm currently pursuing a career on the side as a real estate wholesaler which emphasizes heavily on a person's communication and negotiation skills in order to be successful. I've done an astronomical ammount of research on the subject (yay for aspie obsessiveness!) and intellectually I am more than prepared to begin. However, I still feel my ability to effectively communicate information and 'read' my client while negotiating deals is not up to par. I have mental "clutter" that results in a significant delay in the processing of information mentally to verbalized speech that I (and alot of you I'm sure) am challenged with. All the information I need is already there but instead of it all being neatly organized in nice little folders, everything is tossed array in all directions as though a tornado just sweeped through. Therefore, I foresee an incredible difficulty I'm going to be faced with when I have to sit down and negotiate back and forth with a client.

Anyways, I'm wondering if there's any others out there in Sales that might be able shed some light on how they work around AS to get the job done.

Try it if you want to, but basically sales is about manipulating the NT brain using social/emotional thinking, and being very social to put them at ease. I don't see how anyone with more than mild AS could succeed at it.

It's not impossible, I was pretty darned good at sales. Not the BEST, but well above average. A lot of customers loved my honesty and willingness to work hard to get them what they need. EMPLOYERS didn't like me though because I wasn't hungry for commission and push their evil 99% profit extended warranties, etc.

Despite not being a greedy, manipulative schmuck, I usually placed 2nd or 3rd in sales with a lotta' people below me. It can be done.

If you know your material (houses) and genuinely want to help someone get what they can afford without screwing them over, word will get around and your clients will spread. Just remember to SMILE (no aspie neutral frowny-face!) and be as helpful as possible, I think you could make it work.

(Now, I don't know the specifics of real estate, I'm only speaking general sales. I was always in computers & electronics - my aspie obsession.) ;)

I am not sure how well it applies to Real Estate but here is my experience. I work in a kayak shop and I find that if I can inform the customer without overwhelming them with information and listen and evaluate their needs, then the outcomes tend to be good. I think people find an honest, and knowledgeable sales person as refreshing and are generally receptive.
