I'm very into alternative lifestyles and building. Theres alot of really good practical skills you learn but I get worried that living around people I dont knw might be too much for me. I require alot of time doing things alone and being alone. I'm pretty good at puting on the mask of extroversion but I just dont want to be uncomfortable or create messy misunderstandings even though I am so simple.

So have you done it? As an aspie what was your experience like?

Yes- this is a rather confusing original post.

First they talk about 'alternative lifestyles' , and 'building'. So it sounds like they live on hippie commune and physically build farm buildings. But then he talks about living around people and acting extroverted, but fails to explain what that has to do with him living 'an alternative lifestyle".

And what does of any of that have to do with "whoofing", and wtf is "whoofing" anyway?

Was thinking it was like "whooping"- what 'Brick' (the funny little boy in the sitcom "the middle") does while reading .

Hi, i haven't tried wwoof-ing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms for the unaquainted) myself but my mum is a wwoofer host and so are a few other neighbors in her community. All sorts of people go wwoofing even people that have no experience or knowledge of working on farms. And speaking for the people in my Mum's area at least - they are pretty flexible about what you get to do and what you can achieve. I think when you join you write your skills or interests and so if the wwoofer had a specific project for you to work on they wouldn't pick you if they felt that it wasn't something you'd be comfortable doing, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I think if you want to do it you should go for it. I think if you went to another country to WWOOF your experience might be even better because people might put any idiosyncrasies in your personality (ie AS traits) down to cultural differences. I think it would be good to get experience socialising and I dont think anyone would judge you if after your 'work' was done you went off to 'read a book' or something ie get some quiet time. Because you'll likely be in the country you could also just go off to walks and stuff as well. I would love to be brave enough to go wwoofing but I'm too shy (and also not that keen on outdoor work lol) and on top of that I would worry about the social side like you. But I still encourage you to give it a go since it seems to be an interest of yours :) Good luck .

Umm, do you really mean woofing, as in barking like a dog? I've done it, but never in public lol...

It was rather inconsiderate of the op not to explain it.

But Periphery explained it pretty well.
And gave the op a seemingly good answer to his question.

So...I think were all done here.

I would think that WPers who support a "Aspie Acres"-ish concepts (intentional Aspie farm communities) would be thrilled with this thread.

SO lazy...

Interesting i always thought it stood for willing workers and not world-wide opportunities on organic farms. Don't know where that misconception (of mine) came from. NVM just read the wiki, it means both.

I made a thread here in this section about this. Very much considering doing it myself, as I want some more farming skills, and I'm cut out for and like outdoor manual labor type work.
