Considering that a lot of us recently graduated from college, or are going to graduate soon, I think we need a thread about this... especially since a lot of us probably don't have much/any previous experience to speak of.

Do you have any employment history?

If you don't have any experience and can afford to work for free for a while, apply for an internship in the field you want to enter. Then you'll have some experience to put on your resume when you apply for a real job.

If you must get a job right away to make ends meet, then search for "entry level" or "will train" in the jobs listings for your area on Indeed.com and Craigslist.

If you have no employment history, get a job, any job, as soon as you graduate. While you're working look for a job in your field.

It's valuable to get some experience in the workplace before you enter your field. The workplace is a different world than school and there are many similarities between working professional jobs and menial jobs. Start getting accustomed to the workplace world as soon as possible.

If you happen to get a job in your field right after school consider yourself lucky, because it's unlikely.

Do you know what degree you'll be getting when you graduate from college? Try to talk to your college career advisors to find out what job opportunities you can pursue with your expected degree.

I know what employers and job titles are available for someone with my major. I also know that extensive previous experience is preferred.

I think with the economy in bad shape and a lot of experienced people out of work, employers are simply not hiring entry level employees right now.
