I used to work at an administration building near a zoo in Cleveland. It was the first job I ever had. I did a lot of different tasks involving clerical work (data entry, filing, alphabetizing, etc.), the building had a friendly atmosphere, and everyone I worked with was very nice. I worked there for a few years.

One day, I was offered a job at a mortgage company in Strongsville, closer to where I live. I accepted, thinking I was ready to move on. It turned out I wasn't; on my last day, I felt sad, because I knew there wouldn't be another place like this. I worked at the mortgage company for a few months before I was laid off.

My position at the administration building has already been filled, but I am trying to find a similar position there, as I am no longer interested in my current job at the clinic. Unfortunately, I've been told that there is no guarantee that this will happen for a while. I was a little saddened when I heard this; I'm starting to wish I never left my first job.

How about you? Have you quit a job that you like, only to regret it later?

Nope. Happy every single time... Thing is that I seem to swap jobs at least once a year - not good...

Well, almost. Had to quit a job I adored (had even been the're for over a year!) Because my visa ran out and wife wanted to move back to the UK.

A lot of people feel a degree of sadness leaving a place they liked working, even if they are leaving for better opportunities.

But remember, hindsight is always 20/20.

I'm still working at my first job so i don't know how it feels. Your first job sounds a lot like mine, it has a friendly atmosphere and the people here are very kind. It is however not perfect. The salary is below average and it's about a 20 minute drive. But i would probably never quit it if i was offered a job that paid better and is closer to where i live. I prefer a nice working place/kind co workers over better salary/location.

I'm curious why you did accept it. Did you expect the mortgage company to be as friendly as your first job? Did you want to experience something new? Or was it purely for a closer location and a better salary?

Likely the last one. It was a closer drive and I got paid more. I almost didn't accept the job, but a couple friends convinced me otherwise.

Yes. I was having money trouble and left an accounting job with prospects that I had settled into and was good at. My manager had negotiated me a pay rise but it wasn't enough. The job I left it for turned out to be a bag of crap as well and I moved on after a couple of weeks into another job, that was a longer commute for less money than I was getting in the job I actually liked. Doh.

This is an easy question. I've never liked any job I've had so leaving them was a dream.

I have been in similar position numerous times. It is a natural reaction when things are not going well to be nostalgic about better times. I have regretted leaving jobs and wished I could go back. But at the same time I have been mindful that the reason I liked the previous job could have been more to do with timing than the job itself.

I hope you find a job you like soon.

yes, i have left a job and regretted it. i think that's because i hate my new job, though. when i become very negative, i tend to contrast this to all the positives of my last job. however, i was very negative about that job at the time. i'm negative about most things. my advice is that if you're missing your old job then you're probably simply not happy. find something that makes you happy.

Whether I liked it or not, I have always had to leave. But I regretted leaving my second last job for my last job. Although it was a crap job, the coworkers were nice and I had a great part time job to supplement the pay. My last job has horrible with a capital h. This job is awesome and I don't want to have to leave. Yes, though, everyone leaves a job they like sometime.

I haven't been at a job I liked, my current one is OK but it pays minimum wage basically and it is only a couple of hours a week, not much to live on.

Wow, that's really good for someone with ASD. I've only had one job so far (Pizza Hut line cook since 2008), and it has been crummy because I cannot seem to get into any other job. Coworkers talking behind my back make it very clear that I won't be manager no matter my tenure. I then stopped caring about career advancement and just decided to live frugally the rest of my life so that I would never actually need a higher-paying or more respected job.

I miss my bookstore job where I had to talk on the phone a lot and talk to strangers all day and hate like poison the boring, mindless repetitive hell I do now even though I am pretty much alone all day and nearly never have to talk on the phone. Weird, but true, since I hate talking on the phone and rude strangers make me cry.

The bookstore was bright and airy, there were lots of great books and magazines lying around and we were encouraged to be familiar with them and even to read some on the job because we could attract a customer's attention and describe the product better. Many of the customers were regulars and i still see them around sometimes and they remember me. Unfortunately, the pay wasn't really enough to support me.

The job I do now I've had for 15 years and I feel like I'm in jail. I can use my considerable skills with language and it's in the field I studied in college, I have a room to myself with minimal interaction with other employees and days can go by without my phone ringing. I am actually expected to hyperfocus and notice tiny details. And I am slowly going insane from boredom....
