I've been really wanting to get a summer job and I like to keep my options open.

I tried applying as a camp counselor, but nobody wanted to hire me, because the staff was full. Something I really want is to get hired as a waiter or a person in retail that helps with customer service. Is there any advice you can give me (coming from a guy who has Asperger Syndrome) on how to get hired over the summer?

Seth, though there are certainly other routes to being hired, the most reliable way to get hired is to convince the interviewer that you can do the job better than any of the other candidates.

Send in applications to as many places as possible. My (limited) experience with large retail companies (Wal-Mart, Target, and Michaels) is that it may take them a while to get back to you and ask for an interview (a month or even two).

Major retail companies - apply online
Small local stores - dress nice and try speaking with the manager in the store
Waiter - again, dress nice and stop in to ask the hostess if they are hiring - always choose a time inbetween meal times when they're not so busy.

Also try searching for jobs online.

With working as a waiter, will you be able to handle the multi-tasking? That work often requires a lot of running around and memorizing menus and juggling tasks. It can be overwhelming.
